3rd Angle Projection
A symbol that shows how the views of a drawing are organised e.g. left side elevation is
placed on the left of the page.
Leader line
A thin line that shows the start and end point of a dimension. We leave a small gap
between this line and the drawing.
Dimension line
A thin, continuous line with slim, filled arrowheads at each end. It shows where a
dimension starts and finishes.
Square dimension
When an object is square in shape, a small square symbol is written before a dimension.
Diameter
A circular symbol is written before a dimension to show the object is perfectly circular.
Linear dimension
Any dimension which follows a straight line (left to right, up or down)
Radial dimension
Any dimension applied to an arc or curve and measured in degrees.
Angular dimension
A measurement applied to any angular component.
Across Corners (AC)
A measurement for hexagons and octagons when its measured from one corner to the
opposite corner e.g. hexagon 75AC.
Across Flats (AF)
A measurement for hexagons and octagons when its measured from one flat surface to
the opposite flat surface e.g. hexagon 60AF.
Chain dimension
A method of linear dimensioning which shows each value in a consistent line.
Each dimension starts where the last dimension ended.
Parallel dimension
The dimensions start from a single point and are organised by size, smallest closest to the
object/ product.
