ISOLATION – WHAT IS A NURSE TO DO?
Scenario 1
There is one side room available on the ward. The IPC team has informed you that patient
‘A’ has had a positive MRSA screen in the nose on admission. The HCA on duty has also just
informed you that patient ‘B’ has been having loose stool (Type6 twice).
Which patient do you move to the side room?
Scenario 2
Patient ‘C’ is a 70 year old lady, admitted 3 days ago with constipation and UTI. The patient
informs you that they have had loose stool last night before bed and again this morning.
When you ask the patient to point to the stool type on the Bristol stool chart they point to
Type5.
