It is about a Japanese surgeon whose name is Sadao. He studies in America and marries a Japanese girl. World War II broke during that time. All the doctors were under the obligation to go to the Japanese army. However, Sadao stayed back with an old general. As the old general was ailing, he was in need of Sadao. However, we learn that how an America Navy man finds his way in Sadao’s life. As the soldier was not well, Sadao offers him medical help. Sadao was not willing to help the enemy but he does. He also knows the danger he has got himself into by helping the enemy. Due to this, Sadao conspires to kill the soldier in his sleep. However, Sadao decides to save him because of humanity and brotherhood. ABOUT DR. SADAO Dr. Sadao was a renowned Japanese surgeon and scientist. He was a gentleman who remained faithful to his career even in difficult circumstances. He lived in his ancestral square stone house in Japan which was built upon rocks, above a narrow beach, on the Japanese coast. For humanitarian interests as well as finding it his ethical obligation, Dr Sadao tended a wounded prisoner of war that was technically a serious crime. He was never revealed to anyone but his wife, faithful yet cautious staff, and a general who was so self-obsessed with his own treatment that he would never let the doctor leave him ABOUT HANA Hana is Dr. Sadao Hoki’s wife. The couple met at a university in America, until their parents back in Japan could properly approve of and arrange the marriage. Hana shows a deep love for Japanese customs and the old way of living, seen through her traditional house and her role as a subservient housewife. She largely bends to Sadao’s will, often without resentment, and upholds him as the head of the household. Hana’s main task is overseeing the servant who, in turn, tend to her household and children and ensuring that her husband is always fed first and taken care of. Although she appears less overtly racist than her husband, she too distains Tom for being white and American. ABOUT TOM Tom is a teenager an American Prisioner of war who was captured and tortured by the Japanies but some how escaped He washes up on the beach near Dr. Sadao Hoki and Hana”s isolated house and they discern that he is a Prisioner of war. From his recent bullet wound , his blonde hair, and his U.S navy cap . Even though Tom is unconscious or sleeping for much of his time with Sadao and Hana , his marry presence force than to grapple with their conflicting impulses to help a fellow human and to be lolay to ones country . ABOUT GENERAL The General, like Dr. Sadao, has grown up believing that Americans were their sworn enemy. But he lacked the compassion of Dr. Sadao. He sends for him on account of his ill health. The General trusts no one but Sadao when it comes to matters of his own health. When the doctor confesses about the American who had washed up outside their house, the General reacts in a peculiar manner. So he tells Sadao that he would send assassins to his house and execute him. He did this in order to make sure that his medical treatment at the hands of the doctor is not interrupted. In the end, he becomes a perplexing character because he never sends the assassins as he had promised WAR BETWEEN JAPAN AND UNITED.STATES A glimpse of war between japan and united states held .When the Japanese attack the American fleet in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, on December 7, 1941, the United States enters World War II and goes to war with Japan; the war ends when the U.S. drops atomic bombs on Hiroshima (August 6) and Nagasaki (August 9) in Japan in 1945 DISADVANTAGES OF WARS • Death, injury, sexual violence, malnutrition, illness, and disability are some of the most threatening physical consequences of war, while post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), depression, and anxiety are some of the emotional effects. WHAT ARE THE BAD EFFECTS OF WAR? The most common negative impacts of war include loss of human lives, economic losses due to destruction of capital as well as disruption of trade, human suffering, the spread of diseases, displacement of people and destruction of the environment, among others. IMPACT OF WAR ON SOCIETY • War can wipe out a generation of men and cause a slight dip in the birth rates. Over 60 million people died in World War II. Women end up raising children on their own because their husbands died in the war. The anxiety, guilt, grief and other emotions disrupts families and changes social patterns.
