English Run on sentence • Definition: • “It occurs when two or more independent clauses are not joined correctly or not joined with proper conjunction or punctuation.” • A run on sentence is poor grammer. It exists when two independent clauses are joined incorrectly. • More than one independent clause can not exist in sentence unless they are properly combined. • Example: • I have to go to store I need to buy milk. • We are going to the game, then we are going to dinner. Types of run on sentence • • • • Fused sentence Comma splice Fused sentence: It occurs when independent clauses are joined with no marks of punctuation or conjunction. • Example: • My professor read my paper he said it was excellent. • Comma Splice: • When two independent clauses are joined by comma, it is said to be comma splice. • Example: • I woke up, I ate breakfast.
