2) Find three maps at different scales and arrange them from smallest to largest scale.
Include an asterisk of your landmark’s location on each map.
3) FRQ practice: Explain how your maps are organized from smallest to largest scale
(EXPLAIN requires you to ACE it)
4) Identify the absolute distance between your landmark’s location and Celebration
High School using Google Maps.
5) Describe the relative distance between your location and Celebration High School
using Google Maps (Must include A and E from ACE).
6) Identify your landmark’s absolute location (A from ACE).
7) Identify your landmark’s relative location (must include A from ACE).
Student example:
1) Location: Gateway Arch, St. Louis, Missouri.
2. Map Scale from smallest to largest
3. FRQ Practice: The maps are organized from smallest to largest scale because the first map is showing a
regional map of the United State showing states in the Midwest. The second map is at a larger scale because it is
showing the state of Missouri in more detail. Finally, the last map is at the largest scale because it is showing
local details of downtown St. Louis and the Gateway Arch.
4. Absolute Distance: According to Google Maps, the Gateway Arch is 1,004 miles from Celebration High
School.
5. Relative Distance: According to Google Maps, the relative distance from the Gateway Arch to Celebration
High School requires someone to drive on the high way. The roads to take include I-64 East to I-57 South to I24 East to I-75 South to the Florida Turnpike South and then to I-4 East. If everything goes well, you should
arrive in 14 hours and 41 minutes.
6. Absolute Location: The absolute location of the Gateway Arch is located at 11 N 4th St Gateway Arch
National Park, Saint Louis, MO 63102-1810
7. Relative Location: The relative location of the Gateway Arch is across the street from the Old Court House.
