Terminal Learning Objective
Action: Process DA Form 268, Report to Suspend Favorable
Personnel Actions (Flags).
Conditions: In a classroom environment, given access to AR
600-8-2, DA Form 268, scenarios, and supporting
documentation.
Standards: Complete the DA Form 268 to initiate and remove
flags IAW 600-8-2. DA 268 will be error free and forward to
appropriate Command.

The Principle of Support
Institutes a system to guard against accidental execution of
specified favorable personnel actions for Soldiers NOT in
good standing.

Suspension of Favorable Personnel Actions (Flag)
Definition:
– SFPA signifies that military or civilian authorities have
initiated an unfavorable action or investigation (formal
or informal) against a Soldier
DA Form 268:
– The document used to initiate or remove a flag.
– All flags must be initiated within 3 days when a Soldier’s
status changes from favorable to unfavorable.

 Non-Transferable flags
– Soldier cannot be reassigned while the flag is active
 Transferable
– Soldier can be reassigned, and the flag transfers with the
Soldier

Remove a Flag
 Remove the flag using DA Form 268
– Check the conditions under which the case was closed
and use the appropriate report code.
 The effective date is the date the circumstance occurred,
not the date the form is prepared
 Authenticate removal of a flag:
– commanding officers
– Commandants
– officer/civilian with authority to sign “For the
Commander,”
– HQDA GO, principle staff heads, or their designee

A: The effective date of removal is the day on which the
Soldiers status changes (See para 1-2 and 1-13). AR 600-8-2
2-7b. The first general officer in the chain of command will
determine the effective date of removal if there is a conflict. .
