You are living in a University residence, and you have a problem with the high levels of noise from
a new campus restaurant which is open late at night. Write a letter to the governor of the
University. In your letter,
Complain about the situation

And propose ways to reduce the noise
MY RESPONSE
Dear Mr. Mathew,
I am writing this letter to you in connection with an issue that I am facing because of noise that comes
from campus restaurant, operative till late night.
Since our mid-term examination is approaching and every student including me needs time and space
to study. However, the closing time of the restaurant in the new campus are quite late and therefore
this noise is a source of continuous disturbance.
As you are well aware of a study decorum that a student has to be given and which is more important
while we are residing in the campus, unfortunately this noise creates issue for me to focus on my study
material and making it almost difficult for me to finish timely.
I would appreciate if you exercise your power over the matter under discussion ask them to make
their timings appropriate i.e. till 9 P.M. maximum this manner, me along with other students can study
at peace and with concentration.
I look forward to a positive response and action from you on the subject matter.

Dear Mr Smith,
I am writing regarding the amount of noise coming from the new restaurant, which has just
opened near my University residence. Although I am pleased that we have this facility and I
enjoy my meals there. But the restaurant remains open up to midnight each night, and as a
result there is considerable talking, shouting and the sound of motorbikes continuing until about
12.30 each night.
This causes me and my neighbours in the residence a serious problem, because at that time we
are either trying to sleep, or in some cases trying to study in our bedrooms. In both cases, the
noise and commotion disturbs us, making us tired in the mornings or affecting the progress of
our studies. I am sure you will understand that this is a worrying situation for us all.
I will appreciate if the campus authorities can restrict the weekdays hours and extend the
weekend hours for the smooth functioning of their business. Also, we can put up signs/boards in
the restaurant that can remind people to keep the noise at minimum.
