What is assignment assessment?
Usually any exercise given by the teacher to
the student as part of the lesson, or any
follow
up
work
suggested
for
study
and
completed by a given date and for which they
can receive a score is called an assignment.

Importance of assignment in medical
education
• The principle aim is create teaching and
learning opportunities to think and learn
about ideas, topics, events, and questions
about specific content in the curriculum.
• To teach the student to work on his own
responsibility.
Importance of timely submission of
assignments:

The assignments when submitted on a timely basis
have a great impact on the overall grades of the
student.

It can assign extra marks to the student.

If the quality of assignment of a students writing
is below average but have submitted it on time,
he/she can attract good grade.
Planning and Instruction
Planning of Assignments
This is an important work of a teacher helping
student to build contextual Learning Skill
1. Oral and written instructions should be given
2. Let the learners know what they are expected to
learn ie. learning objectives
3. Teach students to pre-read or skim – looking for
key ideas, concepts, terms etc.

4. Give them a framework i.e. concepts not
facts within which to fit new learning
5. Teach students how to summarize by using
charts, flow charts and diagrams
6. Teach to present content in ways that are
meaningful & relevant

7. The teacher should supply the list of resource
material or books for collateral reading if required.
8. The teacher should always assist the student when
help is sought but shouldn’t impose his suggestions
9. Limit the amount of information that you present.
