DIFFERENT HEALTH ISSUES AND CONCERNS Submitted by: PRINCE JOSEF E. COQUIA Grade VI-A Subject: HEALTH Otitis externa is a condition that causes inflammation (redness and swelling) of the external ear canal, which is the tube between the outer ear and eardrum. Otitis externa is often referred to as "swimmer's ear" because repeated exposure to water can make the ear canal more vulnerable to inflammation Otitis media is a group of inflammatory diseases of the middle ear. The two main types are acute otitis media (AOM) and otitis media with effusion (OME). AOM is an infection of rapid onset that usually presents with ear pain. In young children this may result in pulling at the ear, increased crying, and poor sleep. Underweight is defined as low weight for age in children and a BMI of <18.5kgm−2 in adults, reflecting a current condition resulting from inadequate food intake Stunted growth is when a child fails to meet the expected height or weight for their age. It can lead to long-term health problems, including difficulties affecting both physical and mental development. It's caused by malnutrition, repeated infection or, in some cases, both. The terms “overweight” and “obesity” refer to body weight that is greater than what is considered normal or healthy for a certain height. Overweight is generally due to extra body fat. However, overweight may also be due to extra muscle, bone, or water. People who have obesity usually have too much body fat. Obese: Well above one's normal weight. A person has traditionally been considered to be obese if they are more than 20% over their ideal weight. That ideal weight must take into account the person's height, age, sex, and build.
