Name : Sheila Fathurrohmah NIM : 2004133 Group : Gawain Why Are You Studying English? Is It Important? Nowadays, English has become a global international language. English is a universal language. Several countries have spoken English as the official language. We also certainly often find English writings in information media. Such as televisions, cellphones, laptops as well as in general social media using English language, also when we play games on cellphones or on PCs, most of them use English language. Therefore, I think English is important to learn in this modern era. I have been studying english for several years. In fact, it has been introduced to English lessons since in elementary school.When I was on the 2nd grade in my junior high school. I enrolled myself in an English course. There I really learn from the basics. There, I felt that learning English was indeed difficult but also fun. We don't just learn formulas or memorize vocabulary. But we can also learn by staging English dramas, watching English movies, singing English songs and much more. And I really like it all. Over time my english skills have improved. The funny thing is that when people thought I was smart at school. This course is indeed quite helpful for English lessons at school. But, before I could finish my course. I had to leave the course because there were some obstacles. Among them, time is getting narrower for me and financial constraints that require me to stop. From there, I still try to learn on my own through social media such as content on YouTube which includes English lessons. Because I realize my English skills are still far below a good standard. Learning a language is different from learning something else. This takes a very long time. Because we are not only required to understand but also develop and apply. This is not an exact science that we can solve with just a formula. But we also need really broad insights. When I was on the 3rd grade in Senior High School even semester, I started thinking about plans I would choose after graduation. Will I go to work or go to college or even choose to get married? Of course, I want to choose to continue my education to college. And lucky for me, my parents wanted the same thing. They let me choose the department and university according to my wishes. However with one condition, the university that I choose must be in Bandung area. There are several majors that I am interested in. Until finally I chose English language and literature at Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia. I chose this major to change the future of my life to be brighter. Whether it's being a translator, editor, or tour guide so I can travel to several places. For sure, I will be what I want to be. By choosing this department at UPI, I can make it happen, of course with confidence and effort.
