Some words are unclear, too quiet, or lacking inflection, but understandable overall. Much of the dialogue is not easy to understand, rate is too fast, or lines spoken too quietly. The majority of the dialogue is unclear. Can not understand the dialogue, either due to lack of volume or articulation. Characterization Student demonstrates a clear character, distinct form the actor performing the role, with appropriate physicalization. Actor stays “in character” throughout the entire scene. Character has clear relationships with the physical space. A character is apparent, but is not consistently embodied by the actor. Stays “in character” for the majority of the scene, but drops character once or twice. Character is unclear and lacks physicality. Drops character when other characters are speaking. Relationship with other characters is unclear in spots, and does not show a relationship to the space. Character is very basic with no interesting choices. Does not listen to the scene parter and drops character frequently. No relationship to partner or space. No characterization and no physicality. Scene is flat and simply a recitation of the text. Blocking/Staging Staging is clear, aids in effective communication of scene, all blocking choices are clear. Staging is clear most of the time, a few moments of upstaging or lack of clarity of purpose. Blocking was forgotten several times, or actor upstages themselves or others. Movement execution is flat and seems unmotivated. Blocking has not been remembered and actors upstage themselves or others a number of times. Staging was not planned or prepared, and hindered the scene. Preparation/Practice Student was completely memorized on their lines, blocking, and acting choices. A well performed scene. Student missed a few lines, or blocking, but was overall prepared and ready to perform. Student missed many of his/her lines, and/or may have forgotten some blocking, but was able to complete the performance. Student fails to recall lines or blocking consistently, undercutting any real acting choices. Student was unprepared and had to perform with a script.
