11:39 Tuesday, November 3rd Began observation of the YouTube channel Dirty Garage. The video starts off with the subject receiving parts for his hopeful build of his GC8 Subaru rally car. He spends quite a bit unboxing and showing off the new parts. He explains what is and what needs to be replaced on the car. He explains that he has spent quite a bit of time and money researching and buying parts for the car. Why did he choose this car? Video ends 11:46 The next video begins, Subject begins actually working on his car and getting it ready for racing. He explains that this was originally his daily commuter that he had used for a substantial amount of time. He then starts stripping the car of all of its interior parts to lighten and prepare it for a race. He takes his time and is very methodical and makes sure that all the parts are organized. He encounters frustrations and is unsuccessful in getting a part out. Video Ends 11:52 The next video begins with the subject taking the vehicle to get it washed using up the remaining gas to get it ready for a complete rebuild. He then explains what he wants to do and goes about stripping down the whole dash and heater assembly. He removes all the wiring and the carpet and cleans out part of the interior. He finishes working on the car for that day and talks about what he has planned for the next day. He wants to remove the engine and transmission and do a compression test on the engine. He wants to sell the old engine Why does he need to lighten it? that he is removing so that he can produce funds to help further his build. 12:02 Finished observation until later. 10:57 Wednesday, November 4th Began observation for the day of the same YouTube channel as before as this channel gives great insight into the project car community. This channel specifically shows the amount of time that goes into building and modifying a project car. It shows the frustration that he encounters and the complexity sometimes of working on cars. He begins this video by removing the engine from the car. He also plans to remove the transmission earlier. He begins pulling the engine and struggles to get some bolts removed. He also spills oil all over the garage floor. He then starts on the transmission. He has to remove all the connections in the cabin and slowly drop the transmission out of the vehicle. He makes sure to clean as he goes. He then uses dry ice to frees the sound dampening to lighten the vehicle. 11:19 began video from the same channel He begins putting a roll cage in the car. He starts welding it up and being bars for the car after doing precise measurements. His measurements are very important are one of the things that he spends most of his time on. After that, he cleans up the bars and begins fitting and welding his bars in place. Now I skipped a few episodes because he is just working on the cage and other stuff that is extremely time-consuming. 11:36 began the next video This video is later on in the series. He has now finished most of what he envisioned. The car is ready to race. He finished it just in time for his first rally. He goes through the car and shows off what he accomplished. It is very impressive what he was able to accomplish in the amount of time that he had. He is very happy with the way his car came out and really wants to get racing with it. 11:50 began video from the channel Fuzzy Dice Projects He bought the car for $100 dollars. He goes through the car explaining its issues. He states that it is an aging car with problems. He explains that it was his neighbor’s car that was parked after its muffler fell off. The car is very rough and dirty. It is covered in dust and rust. He goes through all the fluids and finds that the coolant is low and full of rust. The muffler and exhaust are complete rust and need to be replaced. He lifts up the car and drains the oil. He states that the oil doesn’t look that bad. He continues to go through the car and explain little issues. He is challenged with a bolt that won’t come loose from the coolant reservoir. He cleans the car up and starts envisioning what he wants to do with it. He goes through the history of his family owning this specific car. He talks about how this car reminds him of his father’s car, but it is not his father’s car, so that gives him the freedom to make it into his own vision but maintaining the sentimental value of his father’s car 12:03 Finished observations. Why does he not want the car to be the exact same or his father’s car?
