Michelle Bedoya 18/11/2020 Travis Huss Movie Analysis Movie Analysis The main characters of Hidden Figures were Katherine Johnson, Mary Jackson, and Dorothy Vaughn. Katherine Johnson is a real person in which who was portrayed accurately1. As stated, the actress even studied the way Katherine acted and how she behaved2. Dorothy Vaughn was also portrayed in the correct manner3. Along with Mary Jackson4. These women and the actress who portrayed them were meant to be acted out correctly to show the history behind them and the struggles they went through5. Some of the main events were when in the beginning when their car had broken down and no one had helped them. Since in that time it was not customary for whites to help blacks6. One event that is significant was when the members with who Katherine were working with handed her a stack of papers that were “confidential”. When they had given the to her (they were marked through) to make her work harder. This is accurately represented because women at the time were not treated equally7. Another is when Katherine and Al had gotten into an argument because she had kept on taking a long time on her breaks but it was because she had to walk to the Blacks facility to use the bathroom. In the movie he supposedly made it that she was able to use the bathroom that the white’s used. In the movie Al tore the sign down, whereas in real life Katherine did not know they were separated because they were few colored https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/lists/hidden-figures-10-films-stars-real-life-inspirations-964715 https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/lists/hidden-figures-10-films-stars-real-life-inspirations-964715 3 https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/lists/hidden-figures-10-films-stars-real-life-inspirations-964715 4 https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/lists/hidden-figures-10-films-stars-real-life-inspirations-964715 5 https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/lists/hidden-figures-10-films-stars-real-life-inspirations-964715 6 Own knowledge and History 7 https://www.historycentral.com/sixty/Americans/WOMEN.html 1 2 Michelle Bedoya 18/11/2020 Travis Huss Movie Analysis bathrooms. This is not portrayed right because black and whites were separated by their facilities if they were “equal”8. The clothing in which the women wore in the movie was accurately represented with the high neck button top and low shoes and flats9. The thing that was noticeable but at the same time was not how back then women were considered as computers10. Meaning that they would do all the work instead of actual computers specifically black women. Along with that women were still expected to help carry put home life and were to have and equal balance of both work and home life 11. Along with that if you wanted your children to have a good education you ma need to take on more jobs to be able to provide for it12. Along with moving so many miles needed to where the school is located at13.
