Reading Intervention Plan
Grade 6 S.Y. 2020-2021
I-Introduction
Reading is no longer considered an ability acquired only in childhood. Instead it is viewed
as an expanding set of knowledge, skills and strategies that individuals build on throughout life
in various contexts, through interaction with their peers and the wider community. The massive
growth in the use of computers and technological devices has moved literacy skills into a digital
domain that requires a range of new and different skills than were needed 20 years ago.
With this in mind, the teacher developed innovative techniques, combining traditional
reading strategies and digital platforms to help the learners elevate their reading and
comprehension skills in a way that will uphold their interest despite the distractions that go along
with the use of technology and also, amidst the world health crisis that is being experienced
nowadays.
II-Context
This reading intervention plan is designed to address the learning needs in reading and
reading comprehension of Grade 6 St. Therese pupils who lag behind as manifested by the results
of assessment and evaluation conducted by the teacher through the “Tangway ES 3B’s
Program.”
The table below shows the different reading levels of the learners based from the Word
Recognition, Comprehension and Speed skills assessment conducted on a ten-day pilot
implementation of “Tangway ES 3B’s Program” on September 23 to October 3, 2020. Different
levels of reading materials were given to the learners depending on their Phil-IRI post-test result
last school year. Additional data that strengthened the initial results were obtained during the
first month of formal running of Blended- Online-Modular Distance Learning of SY 2020-2021.
Table No. 1 depicts the summary results.

III- Rationale
Considering the above data, the teacher formulated this reading intervention plan for the
learners. While bearing in mind the goal of giving high-quality education for the pupils, the
maximization of learners’ potentials, their diversities and technological capabilities were also
taken into account. Table 3 provides the details of the intervention plan.
