The area lies at N latitude 180 10’30” and E longitude 820 56’ in survey of India toposheet no 65 J/16. Nimmalapadu (v) is 98 Km NNW of Visakhapatnam and could be approached via kothavasasa, Srungavarapukota and Damuku villages on Visakapatnam –Araku State Highway. APMDC holds two Mining leases for Calcite etc over an extent of 46.60 ha on Nimmalapadu (v) of Visakapatnam dist. The Calcite deposit has been explored by way of detailed geological mapping, diamond core drilling, sampling and analysis. The deposit is estimated to contain a reserve of 24.65 lakh tonnes of Calcite (at 3% SiO2 cuf off) with an average SiO2 of 2.18% and a reserve of 85.57 lakh tonnes of Calcite (at 4.75% SiO2 cut off) with an average SiO2 of3.4%. 2. Calcite Karaiguda Calcite Deposit: The Calcite deposit falls in Karaiguda village and is a notified Tribal Area. The area lies at N Latitude 180 20’05” and E Longitude 830 01’15” in Toposheet No. 65N/3. It is situated 110 Km NNW of Visakhapatnam and could be approached by VisakhapatnamAraku State Highway via Kothavalasa, Srungavarupukota, Damuku, Ananthagiri and Sunkarimetta villages. From Sunkarimetta a fair weather kutcha road leads to Tadaka village and from there, there is a makeshift road for 3 kms upto Karaiguda village. APMDC filed Mining Lease application for Calcite over an extent of 46.68 Acres in Karaiguda village, Ananthagiri Mandal, Visakhapatnam District. The Government has proposed to grant mining lease subject to submission of approved mining plan. The Calcite deposit has been explored by way of geological mapping, diamond core drilling, sampling and analysis. The deposit is estimated to contain a reserve of 11.01 lakh tonnes with and average Total Carbonate of 89.2% ranging between 82.6 and 94.3% and SiO2 of 5.2% ranging between 3.3 and 9.5%. Marble deposits in Khammam District: General: Marble is a crystalline metamorphic rock, a carbonate of lime and magnesia. Chemically it consists of calcareous or siliceous or ferruginous or serpentinous limestone, dolomite and calcite. The degree of high polish marble takes depends on equigranular and closely spaced inter-locked arrangement of the individual grains. The compact and polished marble can be used for decorative purpose of the buildings. Marbles are used mostly based on the pleasing appearance and physical strength rather than their chemical composition. Fine grained equigranular marble is generally preferred for statues and sculpture works and coarse grained equigranular marble for external flooring, wall paneling and other building purposes. Hardness of marble ranges between 2.5 to 5 on the Moh’s Hardness scale depending on the chemical composition and relates to its mechanical strength. 6 Location and Accessibility: The marble deposits are occurring in Yellandu, and Kamepally Mandals of Khammam District. The marble bearing areas are falling between Latitude 170 23’ to 170 40’ and Longitude 800 15’ to 800 30’ in Survey of India Topo Sheet No. 65 C/6 and 65C/7. The Yellandu Mandal Headquarter is situated nearly 46 kms from Khammam town in NNE direction. The important marble bearing areas in this Mandal fall in Monditogu, Puballi and Dandagundala villages. All these areas are approachable by jeepable roads. The Kamepalli Mandal headquarters is situated at about 31 kms NNE of Khammam town. The marble bearing areas in thew Mandal fall in Jasthupally, Captain Banjara and Vootukur villages. These villages can be approached by jeepable roads from Kamepally . Geology and Mineral reserves: The rock types met with these areas are Quartzites, Phyllites, slates and Dolomites belonging to the Pakhal Series equivalent to Cuddapah Super Group of rocks. These rock types have a regional strike of NW-SE to N-S direction and a dip in Easterly direction. The marble is formed as a result of regional metamorphism of less impure magnesium dolomites due to compressioin exerted between Gondwana formation and Peninsular Gneissic complex, as evident from the associated of numerous needles and crystals of minerals like actinolites and tremolites. Besides these minerals, the marbles are occasionally associated with pyrites and sericites, which is suggestive of Dynamothermal metamorphism. The Corporation has applied for grant of Quarry Leases for Marble in Khammam district The DMG has issued proceedings granting 6 quarry leases to Corporation, as per the following details. 3.
