Lab: Chi-square For this lab use the Asthma Homeless Data file (Asthma_Homeless_Data.sav). Data was collected from 144 students in Houston, on having asthma (or not), being homeless (or not), and current housing situation (housed, homeless w/family, unaccompanied homeless, other). 1) Research Question: Is there an equal amount of students in each kind of housing situation? Conduct a Chi-square Goodness of fit test to determine if students housing situations are equally distributed is supported by the data at, α = .05. a. What is the Alternative and Null Hypothesis for this analysis? Alternative, H1: Null, H0: b. Calculate a 2 score using a Goodness of fit test in SPSS. c. What is the Chi-Square (2) score? The Chi-Square critical score (2-crit score; find in the Chi-Square table)? The degrees of freedom (the exact number shown in the screenshot next to df) used to find it? The p-value for this Chi-Square score (the number next to “Asymp. Sig.” in the screenshot? 2 score: 2-crit score: df: p-value: d. Is the Chi-Square score greater or less than the Chi-Square critical score? Is the associated p-value less than or greater than the alpha level of .05? Is the Chi-Square statistically significant? 2 score > or < 2-crit score p-value > or < than .05 Statistically significant e. Do we reject or fail to reject the null hypothesis? Reject or Fail to reject: f. State the conclusion of your analysis (which is a restatement of the supported hypothesis). 2) Research Question: Is being homeless related to having asthma? Conduct a Chi-square Test of independence to determine if a relationship between being homeless and having asthmas is supported by the data at α = .05. a. What is the Alternative and Null Hypothesis for this analysis? Alternative, H1: Null, H0: b. Calculate a 2 score using a Test of independence in SPSS. c. What is the Chi-Square (2) score (value next to “Pearson Chi-Square”)? The Chi-Square critical score (2-crit score; find in the Chi-Square table)? The degrees of freedom (exact number under df for the Pearson Chi-Square) used to find it? The p-value for this Chi-Square score (number under “Asymp. Sig.” for Pearson Chi-Square)? 2 score: 2-crit score: df: p-value: d. Is the Chi-Square score greater or less than the Chi-Square critical score? Is the associated p-value less than or greater than the alpha level of .05? Is the Chi-Square statistically significant? 2 score > or < 2-crit score p-value > or < than .05 Statistically significant e. Do we reject or fail to reject the null hypothesis? Reject or Fail to reject: f. State the conclusion of your analysis (which is a restatement of the supported hypothesis).
