Concept of emotion • A class of subjective feeling elicited by stimuli that have high significance to an individual • • • stimuli that produce high arousal generally produce strong feelings are rapid and automatic emerged through natural selection to benefit survival and reproduction Robert Plutchik believed 8 basic emotions could be mixed to create all other emotions. Feeling or emotion? An emotion is the projection/display of a feeling. Unlike feelings, the display of emotion can be either genuine or feigned. We broadcast emotion to the world; sometimes that broadcast is an expression of our internal state and other times it is contrived in order to fulfill social expectations.
