STUDENT ESSAY CONTEST
“UNITED ARAB EMIRATES: ROAD TO THE FUTURE”
“United Arab Emirates: Road to the Future” student essay contest is held by
Embassy of UAE in Russia and the Institute of Oriental Studies RAS at the
initiative of His Excellency Dr. Mohammad Ahmad Al Jaber, Ambassador of UAE
to Russia, and Dr. Vasily Kuznetsov, the Head of the Center for Arab and Islamic
Studies, Institute of Oriental Studies.
The contest’s objective is the development of cultural and humanitarian relations
between Russian and Emirati societies.
Who can participate?
Bachelor and major program students of Moscow universities, who specialize in
Middle East studies, history and philology of Arab countries, international
relations.
Type of the contest works?
Participants should submit their works written in essay form.
When is the contest held?
Essays should be submitted to the jury’s e-mail between October 21, 2020 and
November 30, 2020.
The results will be announced by the end of the year.

Essay requirements:
Contest essay is a free-form discourse on a particular topic, which should
demonstrate the author’s knowledge of UAE, ability to find arguments for their
views and express their thoughts logically and comprehensively in Russian, Arabic
or English.
References and footnotes are encouraged but not necessary.
Essays should be submitted as .doc or docx files.
Work length: 10 000 – 30 000 symbols.
Page parameters: upper margin 3, lower margin 2, left 3.5, right 2.
Main text format: Times New Roman font, size 14, 1,5 line spacing. First line
indentation – 1.
Footnote format: Times New Roman font, size 10, single-line spacing. No
indentations.
Footnotes are arranged according to ГОСТ Р 7.0.5-2008 Standard
Who rates the works?
The secretary board hands coded works to the jury consisting of Russian and
Emirati experts.
The names of jury members are kept confidential.
The winners will receive valuable prizes.
