Importance for student reviews
Feedback is an integral aspect of the appraisal process. After any task, test, or mode review, students
needed correct guidance to see how good they went or if they needed changes. They needed to grow
their skills in the right way. Feedback will allow students to grasp the subject and prepare it for the next
evaluation. It even motivates them to take initiative. Developing their abilities to understand, analyse
and redirect their own learning. It would certainly raise the confidence of the students, which will finally
provide them with an important improvement forum.
Importance of suggestions to the teachers
Feedback is often necessary for teachers to strengthen and promote learning and growth in the right
direction. Teacher feedback offers students advice on changing, creating and correcting errors. One of
the most critical aspects of positive and constructive input from teachers is that it helps students to open
more doors to opportunities and achievement. Teachers should also focus on their teaching and
learning of students and help them prepare well or to meet the needs of students. Teachers can also
set targets for students of various learning styles through diagnostic feedback. Teacher's timely input
will improve student self-confidence and demonstrate success in future learning. Feedback also
highlights areas of strength where students should strengthen further in their evaluation and quiz.
Importance of input from stakeholders
You can't improve as an instructor or an organisation if you don't encourage yourself to get truthful input.
This input will come from a variety of stakeholders. Parents and management may be involved. One of
the best ways to learn, or improve, the teaching skills is to use useful input from others. Education today
depends a great deal on some internal and external community of people who relate to the term
"stakeholders."
• Value of feedback to parents
Feedback given after each assessment or quiz will recognise the strengths and weaknesses of students
and parents can also encourage their child to turn their weaknesses into strength through proper
encouragement and guidance. Feedback also serves as a mechanism to encourage and encourage
professional relationships between parents, teachers and students of confidence and respect, and
progress can be verified until this student, teacher and parent triangle is completed. Feedback will also
set the parents' target for their child and will also make a positive contribution to the success of their
child. Parents would be able to tell the teacher how well they interact with them. Is their contact reliable,
direct, timely and helpful? Such contact is also critical to helping students overcome learning challenges
long before they have struggled and in time for successful intervention.
• Value of input to management
Feedback is a valuable management tool, as it offers an environment for the leaders of the company to
focus on the success of their staff, and it is also obvious what help they should give to their teachers
and students. A very strong professional culture of trust and respect will be established between parents
, teachers and managers, which is crucial for the organisation in the longer term. A further value of
getting feedback is that contact with all stakeholders is efficient and solid. At the end of the day,
management may also set a target for its staff to accomplish through the information given in feedback
that is relevant.
Summary on the value of feedback to students, teachers and other stakeholders
Teaching and learning are the primary objective of an educational institution, and measuring student
achievement and development is one of the essential tools for success if this is to be accomplished.
Therefore, a proper, positive and diagnostic input from the instructor should be followed in order to
operate this entire process smoothly and efficiently.
This feedback will help students enhance learning and evaluation results, increase trust and selfawareness, and learn about their strengths and weaknesses and the field of growth. Teachers often
profit from offering timely input to their students, allowing them to focus on their teaching and learning
of the students themselves. They should recognise the area of strength in their teaching and the area
of growth and change needed to plan for a better lesson in accordance with the needs of the students.
Feedback also enables them set targets in the right direction. Like students and teachers, the
participants (parents, supervisors) may also step in the right direction through feedback. It recognises
and reflects the strongest strategies and some areas of development.
1 (b): Assess different ways of giving feedback to students and
other stakeholders including approaches to giving diagnostic and
remedial feedback.
1. The Pendleton Model of Feedback
Pendleton 's feedback model is a genuinely human dialog when providing feedback to students and
can make learning experience successful in three main steps:
First and foremost, at the beginning of the interview, students can open up about their progress that
what went well and what went wrong and how they can change. The assessor would then commend
the constructive conduct of the learner. This means that they will show all the positive areas of the
student's learning style as if they are good at knowing the idea, describing it with practice and
experience, or have a strong analytical or evaluative style. We need to understand all these behaviours.
First, the conversation between the learner and the feedback provider will begin where various
techniques for further development and reinforcement will be considered and where various effective
methods for achieving these skills will also be discussed.
Next, conversations between the learner and the feedback provider will begin where various techniques
for further development and reinforcement will be considered and where different effective approaches
for achieving these skills will also be addressed.
Finally, both the learner and the assessor will decide to accomplish the goal in a variety of different and
successful ways to enhance results.
Evaluation
This is a wonderful technique in which we can place the learner on the driving seat during the
conversation and allow them the freedom to evaluate themselves with all their strength and
development. Next, the assessor will recommend some better ideas for more development, and some
differences of opinion between the learner and the assessor will also discuss and find a solution for
each other.
Benefits of Pendleton's feedback model
1. This approach offers equal opportunities for students, as well as for self-assessment, and highlights
their positive areas.
2. Teachers also provide and provide constructive feedback on results.
3. Final change action plans are successful when they are built with the mutual consent of students and
teachers.
4. Holding the field of growth in mind better plans for change are being introduced.
Disadvantages of Pendleton 's Feedback Model
1. Teachers may not be able to address all areas of progress for a student, since they may include
students in their self-assessment, and often students may not be able to highlight all areas, they need
improvement.
2. Although the tactics and the action plan are determined by each other, the instructor can not force
each course of action, since the student does not agree to any proposed action.
Judgments
I've personally observed Pendleton 's Feedback Model for some of the students, and it was partially
effective. Based on that experience, I learned that it only works on those groups of students who do
their self-assessment on practical grounds and who really know about their strengths and areas of
progress and growth. So, some of my students are unable to recognise their errors and propose
methods for change. For them, the Pendleton Model is not the perfect tool to provide input.
2. Situation, actions, impact feedback tool
The SBI feedback tool is successful as we train the learners to provide feedback and make them
understand the whole situation and conditions. Learners will reflect on their actions and understand well
what you are teaching them and why they know all that is important to them, and how they can adjust
their attitudes and actions accordingly.
In this tool or process, first of all, we have to get the learner 's permission to provide feedback and then
explain the whole scenario that if he / she went wrong or not in compliance with the principles of learning,
make sure that the feedback provider is sensitive to the scenario that he / she would be talking about.
For example, despite so many reminders, the learner did not send his assignments on time. Here you
describe the particular activity that you want to discuss. Then you can try to clarify to the learner that
their conduct has a direct effect on you.
For example, because of your actions, I need to talk to your parents. SBI feedback can also be used in
constructive conditions and the same protocol would be followed. Like identifying the situation, defining
the specific behaviour that needs to be addressed and finally having an impact on you.
Evaluation
It is indeed a good way to offer input, since it can prepare the learner 's mind first by adequately
explaining the situation and then providing feedback. Learner will focus on his actions, which is a
positive step to accept the suggested strategies for change.
Benefits of Situation, Comportment, Impact Response Tool
1. The SBI Model can reduce the anxiety associated with feedback.
2. This model focuses only on a particular case at a time when the findings are more targeted.
3. Targeted circumstances are more factually focused and eliminate assumptions in them.
4. In SBI Model, the atmosphere is ideally structured to provide feedback as students are conscious of
the situation and are in a good mood to consider the points addressed in the feedback.
Disadvantage of situation, actions, effect feedback tool
1. Sometime the situation you point out as a teacher could be your own experience and emotions, and
students are not interested in it, this tool may not be successful because it may generate some
confusion between students.
2. The SBI model is not the perfect tool where you have to provide input to a large team and each
person has different circumstances and behaviours. It would take a lot of time to discuss each individual
employee.
Judgments
This approach and tool is the perfect way to provide input when you need to handle a few individuals
with various circumstances and behaviours. It really works well for me because I had a talk with one of
my students who didn't pay attention to playing games on his devices during the lecture. So one day, I
called him and made him realise the situation and his actions and its effect on me, so after a long
conversation, we eventually came to a conclusion where I gave him an incentive to play the game once
a week provided he finishes his work on time. So the SBI Method is very useful when you need to fix
some particular circumstance and actions of your child.
3. The "Pause-Prompt-Praise" approach to feedback
When students study any subject or idea, the goal is that they can ultimately become a confident and
independent learner, and the best approach to being a child and an independent learner is to use pauseprompt-praise when watching a child's learning and performing tasks or working on a project.
Here you can stop the learner from doing the job if you see them struggling with it. Then briefly discuss
why they are unable to do the job well. It means that you're stopping them in between.
Next, you should send them various ideas and suggestions for change, which will certainly motivate
them to do a better job. Here you are telling the learners to do it.
Finally, congratulate the student for achieving their aim and the effort they have made to enhance their
performance following your suggestions. This would certainly raise their morale and strengthen their
learning skills at the end of the day.
Evaluation
This is an effective tool to provide input on a difficult assignment, where students may fail at some stage
to complete it. With this strategy, we can save the time of the students in such a way that we can stop
them if they make any mistake, prompt their mistakes, provide them with the requisite feedback that will
enable them to complete their assignment correctly and finally reward them for their good work, which
will certainly improve their trust in the future.
Benefits of "Pause-Prompt-Praise" Feedback Method
1. Using the "pause, prompt, praise" strategy will often help to align knowledge sharing at the right
moment. For example , when a child comes across an unfamiliar concept, don't support them
immediately, wait a while, and then you can prompt the child. This will encourage the child's thought
process to grow.
2. When we pause the students at the right time, this technique will allow the student to make fewer
errors and learn easily by prompting their errors and encouraging them to correct them.
3. When we give timely encouragement to our students, they will act on your guidance and do their job
well and gain recognition from you, this kind of feedback will increase their faith in learning and will
perform well in the future.
Drawback of the "Pause-Prompt-Praise" approach to feedback
1. When we use this strategy very often, some students will develop a habit of reliance on a teacher in
any task and will not be able to do a difficult task without the help of a teacher that will have a negative
effect on their self-learning approach.
2. This approach is useful for reading and understanding tasks, but in certain group projects and
assignments the student would be limited to doing analysis and seeking higher-level solutions. For
example, the 'Pause-Prompt-Praise' approach is not acceptable in the Travel & Tourism project where
students make a tourism package in a community that is totally researched.
Judgments
"Pause-Prompt-Praise" is a good way to feed, particularly in younger grades where students are
struggling to read and understand. As I teach higher grades and sometime, I used this strategy during
my Business Studies class when observing the case study solution challenge of various groups of
students. I've been using this strategy with a low capacity party, and it really works well. As after my
guidance, they accomplished their mission quickly, and then my encouragement really brought a smile
to their faces, and their performance also improved.
The Feedback Sandwich
4.
Sometime students are bright in their approach to learning and hold a lot of good qualities. Hence some
areas where improvement is required. In this case , teachers should be smart in handling such students
as constructive or derogatory feedback, which can often deter learners and may affect their
performance.
Sandwich feedback technique is the perfect method for these situations, whereas a teacher should
initiate your feedback with praise followed by corrective feedback followed by more praise. As this
decreases the frustration and anxiety of the students ' minds, and at the same time, they also learn to
correct their errors in the future.
For example, in the math class, you can provide feedback using a sandwich technique. Like Dear
Ahmad, you are extremely good at understanding the word problem and you started answering very
well, but between the solution you skipped some important calculation steps, but the good part is that
at the end you still manage to get the right response.
Evaluation
I think this is a great method where you can correct your students by adding the negative feedback
between the good ones. That's why you will achieve your target of improving child output and holding
their confidence high.
Benefits of the 'Feedback Sandwich Model'
1. When providing feedback to your students, we still have some fear in our mind that if we give them
some negative feedback, their learning morale will be poor and they won't perform better next time. So
here this feedback sandwich approach is very useful, as the negative point or area of change is between
the good points that will make the student satisfied with the feedback, and they will try to develop their
poor areas next time. For example, if I want to tell my student that he needs improvement in analysis
and evaluation, then I'll start as if you're incredibly good at memorising concepts, but you need to learn
how to describe the concept in depth with analysis and evaluation and real life examples, overall, I'm
pretty pleased with your positive learning style and eagerness to learn.
2. This method often improves efficiency, eliminates conflict and produces self-sufficient learners, and
actually begins to progress as long as they are given the right path.
3. This is the easiest approach and method to provide input that can be used at any grade level and
with any student.
Disadvantages of the 'Feedback Sandwich Model'
1. In this process, if the negative feedback is not constructive and is just strongly critical, then even
positive at the beginning and the end will not affect the child 's behaviour, and he / she will be highly
demotivated and not perform well.
2. Often the recipient did not pay heed to constructive feedback and instead waited to listen to negative
suggestions as he / she already knew his / her shortcomings, so this approach does not motivate them
to learn properly.
3. The use of the word 'but' that connects the positive and negative remarks will often create a negative
picture in the mind of the listener. They're not going to take it as a compliment either.
Judgments
In order for this approach to be successful for the student, we need to prepare our conversation correctly
and choose the correct positive and negative feedback and choose the best time to provide feedback.
It is usually a positive approach to point out the errors and offer suggestions for progress and to highlight
the strengths of the student. The Sandwich approach can also help establish a positive relationship with
the student. I've seen this technique many times when giving one-on-one feedback, and this is the
perfect way to offer feedback during our Parents Teacher conference.
5. Descriptive Feedback for Remedial Action
Descriptive feedback helps students learn by providing them with detailed information on what they are
doing well, what needs to be changed, and what practical steps they are taking to improve. It is an
important component of learning evaluation and assessment.
To ensure that students have a clear understanding of what teachers are expected to learn as learning
goals or objectives, a complete description of the performance metrics established by these learning
objectives should be communicated with students. Once the requirements of performance are
established and built with the high-quality input of the student, it becomes simpler. When students
receive input from their instructors, they may use It to take more action to learn and develop.
For example, in my Business Studies class, I set the learning objective as 'Identifying and illustrating
the role of business finance' and the performance criterion is 'Students will be able to understand why
and when finance will be needed as a source of capital for business with some real-life examples.' After
main teaching using different activities, I planned an evaluation at a crucial point during learning and
that evaluation was regular, deliberately planned, incorporated with learning, differentiated for individual
or small groups and presented in a variety of modes. This process provided me with the knowledge
needed to provide input.
Remedial action to provide descriptive feedback allows teachers to use the performance criterion to
determine what students need to do to improve, provide instructions on how to improve, provide time
and space for students to use feedback, and then follow up with students.
Benefits from Descriptive Reviews
1. Descriptive feedback clearly defines the essential characteristics of the student's output.
2. It is specifically connected to learning goals and quality expectations for better results.
3. It often offers the best solutions for further development by focusing on the errors and the
shortcomings.
4. Students often feel inspired to receive descriptive input from their instructors.
Disadvantages of Descriptive Reviews
1. Teachers need a lot of time to give each student a descriptive feedback.
2. This method does not promote competition because, unlike the assessment reviews, there is no
ranking in this method.
3. Teachers need to plan appropriately and prepare a remedial action to provide feedback.
4. You can not settle on a reward scheme based on the performance of this process.
Judgments
Descriptive feedback is one of the most widely used methods of providing feedback, for example in my
classroom teaching, as I always provide specific learning goals and performance metrics before
evaluating students, and then provide completely descriptive feedback in the course of action to further
develop relevant strategies. I still write a mixture of statements in my written comments on What Went
Well and What Went False and include remedial action in the form of extra lessons, reinforcement
exercises, practise questions and all my advice on enhancing and improving student learning.
