1. Which of the following theories of art and beauty do you consider convincing and
relatable? Explain why.
I consider Aesthetic Functionalism convincing and relatable because it does imply with
the idea of our structural purposes and I agree with we are what we made of ourselves. We
are considered beautiful if we did our purpose in life right. Purpose to me is something to live
for and something to look forward in life.
2. Why do you think subscription to Hedonism as a central of life, will not work successfully
in the attainment of one’s ultimate happiness and high morality in life?
We all know that money can’t buy happiness and pleasure is temporary. True
happiness comes from the joy of our deed well done. Aesthetic Hedonism is just an illusion
and we cannot attain our ultimate happiness if we cling to a feeling that caused only by our
stimuli. I believe that our ultimate happiness can be found if we know what our true meaning
in life is.
3. Explain in a situation on how Aesthetic Conventionalism may have appropriate
application in a community or a society?
A law is an appropriate application of aesthetic conventionalism because it serves as
a norm of conduct for citizens. When the person did not pay taxes, he/she will be arrested
because paying taxes is a social agreement in our society and he/she will be considered
immoral by convention because it’s against the law. Aesthetic conventionalism means
something like “no exceptions allowed” and it will support the statement “no one is above
the law”.
4. How did Freud help to explain the theory, Aesthetic Psychoanalysis?
Freudian psychoanalysis has a profound influence on aesthetics. He put forward some
enlightening views on aesthetic art such as literary creation and literary criticism, etc. Freud
believed that events in our childhood have a great influence on our adult lives, shaping our
personality. For example, anxiety originating from traumatic experiences in a person's past is
hidden from consciousness, and may cause problems during adulthood. It helps explain
Aesthetic Psychoanalysis theory because it makes us understand that we put our personal
experiences through art and we made art by triggering it.
5. Discuss particularly the theories of art and beauty which you think you adhere or
subscribe to (as they are reflected in life your experiences) in order to attain appreciation of
life, art, and beauty.
When I was a child I used to enjoy staring at the clock for no reason and later on I
realized that I envy the clock because it serves its purpose. The clock tells us the time and with
that I question myself what is my purpose. (Aesthetic Functionalism) In that day, when I
looked in the clock it always remind me that my purpose was to study well. As I grow older,
because as said in Aesthetic Idealism, things are changing and temporal, my purpose grows
bigger and with concordance to society. I appreciate life, art and beauty by the way it changes
or evolve just like our fashion sense, our taste in music and our standard. It also told us that
even though we are distorted, wrecked and are not proportion, we are still called art and is
