Instructions for Setup In this packet, you will find: • 14 fractions games with directions • Answer keys Other materials you will need for setup: • 2 Dice • Counters • 1 crayon, colored pencil, or marker per player • Each player needs a different color. • If you laminate the game boards, students should use dry-erase markers to play the game so that the game board can be erased. Setting up your games: 1. Print each game board single-sided. Printing in color will look best, but printing in grayscale will be okay too. 2. Laminate each game board, if possible. That way, you will be able to use each game board for more than one round of play. Otherwise, you will need to have multiple copies of each game board on hand for your students to play. 3. Any additional materials that are needed for each game are listed on the game itself. Gather those materials before playing. Notes: • The directions for each game are written on the game board so that students can check the directions at any time. • All games are best played with 2 players. © 2016 Games 4 Gains, LLC (Adding Proper Fractions with Unlike Denominators) Materials: Small counters (one color per player), 2 dice Object of the game: To be the first player to create a line of 3 boxes (vertically, horizontally, or diagonally). Directions: On your turn, roll both dice. Add the dice together and find their sum in the chart. Look at the fraction problem beside that sum and solve it. Next, find a space on the game board below that shows the answer to that problem. You may cover ONE box with the matching answer provided that it has not already been covered. If all of the boxes for that answer have already been covered, you do not get to cover any boxes, and it is the next player’s turn. Find your roll in the chart. Look at the sign beside that roll. Next, find a space on the game board that contains a problem where that sign can be used in the blank. You should NOT need to solve the problem to determine the correct sign. You may cover any box that requires that sign provided that it has not already been covered. If all of the boxes for that sign have already been covered, you do not get to cover any boxes, and it is the next player’s turn. When all of the boxes have been covered, each player counts his/her longest snake. To count your longest snake, look for the longest continuous path of your own counters on the board. Paths can continue vertically and horizontally, but not diagonally. No counter may be counted twic e. The first player to cover a line of 3 boxes on any game board with his/her own counters is the winner. 1 1 1 42 60 16 1 1 1 32 40 16 Sum of Dice Problem to Solve 2 1 ÷ 4 8 3 1 ÷ 8 2 4 1 ÷ 3 12 5 1 ÷ 5 7 6 1 ÷ 6 10 7 1 ÷ 9 3 8 1 ÷ 8 5 9 1 ÷ 2 9 10 1 ÷ 4 4 11 1 ÷ 7 6 12 1 ÷ 5 11 1 1 1 18 27 35 1 1 1 1 1 1 27 55 36 40 16 35 1 1 1 1 1 1 35 16 42 18 27 32 1 1 1 1 1 1 18 60 40 60 36 55 © 2016 Games 4 Gains, LLC (Dividing Unit Fractions by Whole Numbers) Tic-Tac-Toe ANSWERS Note: The answers to the problems are shown in the chart. 1 1 1 42 60 16 1 1 1 32 40 16 Sum of Dice Problem to Solve 2 1 32 3 1 16 4 1 36 5 1 35 6 1 60 7 1 27 8 1 40 9 1 18 10 1 16 11 1 42 12 1 55 1 1 1 18 27 35 1 1 1 1 1 1 27 55 36 40 16 35 1 1 1 1 1 1 35 16 42 18 27 32 1 1 1 1 1 1 18 60 40 60 36 55 © 2016 Games 4 Gains, LLC (Dividing Unit Fractions by Whole Numbers) Looking for fun ways to practice Common Core Numbers & Operations standards?
