Program Challenge
Attend 5 Library programs during the summer to win a $10 gift card.
All programs are drop-in unless otherwise noted. Sign up for
registered programs on our website at darienlibrary.org/events/teens
All programs are held in the Teen Lounge unless otherwise noted.
*Teen Summer Reading programs are for tweens and teens
ages 12-18. Twelve-year-olds may join either the Children’s Summer
Reading Challenge or the Teen Summer Reading Challenge,
but not both.
SUMMER PROGRAMS
Summer Reading Kickoff Party: Saturday, June 8, 2 p.m.
Celebrate Summer Reading at Darien Library!
Children, teens, and adults are invited to join us for this
afternoon celebration. Get excited for the summer ahead
with giveaways, crafts, and ice cream!
All ages in the Courtyard
Space Slime: Wednesday, June 19, 1 p.m.
Stop by the Library and create some out-of-this-world slime
using a variety of glitters.
Edible Terrariums: Thursday, July 18, 1 p.m.
If you ever enjoyed the childhood snack “dirt in a cup,” this program
is for you. Make an aesthetically pleasing treat that you can eat.
No green thumb required, just a sweet tooth.

Artemis Fowl Book Discussion: Tuesday, July 23, 1 p.m.
Join us to discuss Artemis Fowl before its movie adaptation hits
theaters in August. Considered a “new classic,” this sci-fi fantasy
about a 12-year-old criminal mastermind will have you on the edge
of your seat!
Get to Know Your Inner Cosmic Being: Wednesday, July 31, 1 p.m.
Astrology, numerology, and tarot readings. Discover your inner self
during this guided course through the cosmic universe. Pick up
knowledge that you can use to impress your friends and family!
This program will meet in the Conference Room.
Candy Planets: Thursday, August 8, 1 p.m.
Design your own extraterrestrial planet using an assortment
of sweets and your imagination.
Summer Reading Teen Finale: Tuesday, August 13, 6:30 to 8 p.m.
As summer comes to a close, join us at the Library to celebrate
your Summer Reading success! There will be food, music, games,
and prizes! Registered.

Join us Wednesdays in July to learn small but mighty life skills and prepare for college
and beyond! All sessions are registered.
Laundry: Wednesday, July 10, 3:30 p.m.
While we can’t actually do laundry in the Library, we can practice all the little
things that make laundry easier! Sorting, folding, ironing, and fitted sheets, oh my!
Self-Care: Wednesday, July 17, 3:30 p.m.
Being a teenager is stressful! Take a break and learn techniques to manage
your emotional load.
Food & Nutrition: Wednesday, July 24, 3:30 p.m.
Healthy eating can sometimes seem like a challenge, but we’re here to help make
it easier! Test your nutrition knowledge and learn some easy snack recipes.
This session will meet in the Conference Room.
Organization: Wednesday, July 31, 3:30 p.m.
Juggling a busy schedule? Can’t seem to find the things you’re looking for?
Learn and share organization tips and set up your own Bullet Journal so you’ll
be ready for back-to-school.
Join us all summer long for Movie Mondays, where we’ll explore time and space
from the comfort of the Teen Lounge. All movies will begin at 3 p.m.

T ween MAKE Week
The Teen Lounge and the Children’s Library join forces to bring a mini-Maker Camp
to Darien Library. Tweens can register for any of the afternoon programs, which
include DIY projects that focus on STEM building activities. Registered. Ages 11-14.
All programs begin at 2 p.m. and will take place in the Conference Room.

Escape the Room: Lost in Space
You and your flight team are stuck in a space shuttle in the depths of outer space.
Something has gone terribly wrong with your ship’s engines! Can you work together
and fix your spaceship in only 30 minutes? This special game, inspired by the
Escape the Room challenges, requires creativity, teamwork, and curiosity to win.
Registration for these limited spots will begin on Friday, August 2.
