Directions: Use the cube to help you generate ideas, connections, relationships,
and arguments before you begin researching and drafting your argument essay.
Side 1: Describe
it.
Describe the topic/issue/problem you have chosen. This is just a free write; do not worry about spelling or
grammar at this point.
Side 2:
Compare it.
What other issues/problems are similar to your topic? How is this topic different/unique from other
problems/issues?

Side 3:
Associate it.
What comes to mind as you think about this problem or issue? What are your feelings on this problem,
topic, or issue?
Side 4:
Analyze it.
Consider the smaller issues within your problem or issue. How do these smaller issues/problems/concerns
work together OR work against each other?

Side 5:
Satirize it.
Satire is used to expose or criticize an issue or problem in society. Critical components of satire include:
~humor
~criticism of humanity, OR of an individual, OR of a group.
~ Moral Voice: What does the person or group do that goes against basic morals?
To show this criticism, you can draw a picture with dialogue, create a political cartoon, or simply write a few
sentences using irony/sarcasm to depict your satirical issue/problem. This is your only chance to criticize
the opposition- take it!
Side 6:
Argue it.
What side will you be taking in this issue? (Look back at your satirical representation if you are unsure.)
What arguments do you think you can make?
