Properties of Matter
Part 1
What is matter?
• Matter is anything and everything that has a mass and occupies space
(volume).
• Therefore since it has mass it can be measured using a scale and we use
the SI unit of Kilograms (Kg) and grams (g).
Matter
Matter can exist in THREE forms ….Or in Science we say:
Matter can exist in THREE STATES, These are: Solid, Liquid and Gases!!!!
How can we classify Matter?
• Matter can be classified as solid, liquid, or gas according to their
physical properties – shape, compressibility, volume, density,
flow.
• Compressibility is the measure of how much a given volume of
matter decreases when placed under pressure.
• Density is a word we use to describe how much space an object or
substance takes up (its volume) in relation to the amount of
matter in that object or substance (its mass).

Gas
LPG- Liquefied Petroleum Gas
It is commonly used in the
household, for example for
cooking, or as fuel for
heating
CNG - COMPRESSED NATURAL GAS
Compressed natural gas, or CNG, is
natural gas under pressure which
remains clear, odorless, and noncorrosive – and can be used as a
cheaper, greener, and more efficient
alternative to the traditional petrol and
diesel fuels for vehicle
WHY IS CNG BETTER THAN GASOLINE?
CNG is one of the most viable
alternatives to traditional liquid fuels
for vehicles here in Trinidad and
Tobago.
CNG is cheaper
CNG reduces maintenance cost
CNG is more environment friendly
