In the upcoming months of April and May members of the ANYTOWN Fire
Department will be calling to schedule a visit to your businesses to complete and/or
revalidate last year’s Pre-Plan Survey of your establishment(s). The purpose of these
surveys is three-fold; safety, preparedness and insurance cost savings.
First and foremost the surveys will provide invaluable information to the
responding firefighters in the event of a fire or other emergency situation within your
facilities. The information will be utilized to help assess the situation while the firefighter
is in route.
Secondly, safety is a priority and any information we can obtain prior to an event
will help us keep our firefighters and any assisting agency personnel that we may need
to call in safe.
Third, completing this survey will help the department meet requirements as set
forth by the Insurance Services Office (ISO) to help us sustain a positive ISO
Suppression rating or Public Protection Classification (PPC) which in turn helps to keep
your homeowner and commercial property insurance rates down. The following is an
excerpt from the ISO web page at http://www.iso.com/Research-and-Analyses/Studiesand-Whitepapers/Effective-Fire-Protection-A-National-Concern.html;
“Insurance companies use ISO's Public Protection Classifications in marketing,
underwriting, and pricing homeowners and commercial property insurance. In general,
the price of fire insurance in a community with a good PPC is substantially lower than in
a community with a poor PPC, assuming all other factors are equal.”
To facilitate this endeavor, members of our fire department will be contacting
you to arrange a time to meet at your place of business and complete the surveys. Our
firefighters will arrive in uniform and will be in a properly marked fire department
vehicle.
I thank you for taking the time to assist us in updating our records and taking
steps to improve our response capabilities which in turn help to maintain the safety of
our community. If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact me.
