UNIT 13: HOBBIES
LESSON 1: READING
I. Objectives:
By the end of the lesson, students will be able to:
- Use the vocabulary items related to the hobbies.
- Guess the meaning of the words base on contexts.
II-Language focus:
1- Grammar: Revise the Present Simple Tense.
2- Language: Vocabulary concerning the hobbies.
III. Techniques:
- Speaking: talk in pairs and in groups.
- Reading comprehension: to answer the questions.
IV. Teaching aids: board, textbook, chalk, projector.
V. Procedures:
Teacher’s activities
1. Warm-up: (5’)
Aims: Sts get used to the topic and attend to the lesson.
- Divide the class into 4 groups.
- Ask each group to have 4 students go to the board and to
look at the screen try to remember the name of the
hobbies.
Students’ activities
- Work in groups of 4 students
- 4 students take turn one by one and write
down their answers on the board.
- Listen to teacher.
HOBBIES
List all things people often do in their free time by the
pictures: Playing game, Singing, Reading books, Fishing,
Listen to music, Watch TV, Walking, Keeping fish,
Collecting stamps, Swimming, Playing chess
- Check if group has the longest list wins the game.
- Sum up and lead in.

2. Before you read: (15’)
Aims: to prepare information and vocabularies for the
topic and to provide students with new words/phrases.
Activity 1: discussion:
1. What are the names of the hobbies described in the - Look at these pictures.
pictures?
- Discussion to give answer.
- Present their ideas.
2. What do you like to do in your free time? Why?
- Ask students to work in pair and give the name of some
hobbies.
- Have students give answers.
Activity 2: Vocabulary:
1. Keep fish (v): nuôi cá
2. Guitarist (n) [gi’ta:rist]: người chơi đàn ghi-ta
3. Accomplish (a) [ə’kɔmpli∫t]: tài ba
4. Accompany (v) [ə’kʌmpəni]: đệm đàn

Aims: Give the summary of the topic.
Role – play: ask your friends about his/her hobbies. Ask
him/her to the following questions:
1. What is your hobby?
2. How often do you ____?
3. When do you ___?
4. Where do you ___?
- Get students to work in pair to do the role – play.
