POINTLESS, PAINFUL, PHYSICAL EDUCATION Everybody knows that physical education should be minimised. Australian students are becoming extremely low in numeracy and literacy. Children all over the world are involved in a sport after school, both in primary school and high school and children could become injured for the rest of their lives. These points will be explored further in the text below. Firstly, Australian students are becoming extremely low in numeracy and literacy. If Australian schools give more time for physical education, Australian children will become as dumb as a door knob. In a school classroom poll, 17 out of 17 students would hate to be dumb as a door nail. Would you want your children, grandchildren and great grandchild to be as dumb as a door knob? Furthermore, children are playing sports after school like dance, netball, football, soccer, horse riding, tennis, swimming, basketball and hockey. Every child can find a sport to love and play. Children are playing these sports after school to keep fit and healthy. Almost every single student in our school plays a sport after school. If they increase physical education and your children play sport after school they will become as thin as a needle, which is totally unhealthy. The last and final reason why physical education should be minimised is, many students are having atrocious injures in physical education, the injures are so dreadful an ambulance is needed. Children will have these awful injures for the rest of their lives, which could even stop them walking the right way. Do you want your children not being able to walk for the rest of their lives? Only a fool would think that physical education should be increased. We need to spend less time on physical education to raise our literacy and numeracy levels, almost all students are already dedicated to sport outside school and school sports can cause students to be injured. You should definitely believe that physical education should be minimised! Strong opening sentence stating the author’s point of view Introduction briefly states the three main arguments. Links to the main body. Opens with “firstly”. Persuasive tools used include rhetorical questions, facts/statistics, and appealing to the readers emotions. Opens with “furthermore”. Gives real life information. Uses second person pronouns such as ‘our school’ to include the reader. Includes a simile “thin as a needle’ to create a strong image. Strong emotive language such as “atrocious” and “dreadful” captures the reader’s attention. Rhetorical questions involve the reader and gets them thinking. “Only a fool” makes the reader feel silly if they don’t agree with the author. Summarises the main arguments to make them stick in the readers mind. Strong final sentence. CHANGE OUR SCHOOL UNIFORMS Write your own persuasive notes in the space next to the piece. It is blatantly obvious that the uniforms at our school need to be changed for numerous reasons. During this text you will read why many people think that the uniforms at our school need to be changed. Do you want your kids to be smelly at school? _____________________________ _____________________________ _____________________________ _____________________________ If you ever had to wear the uniform you would know that the t-shirts are too heavy and thick and students have to carry all that weight all day, every day. Also when kids play at recess and lunch they don’t want their clothes sticking to them so everyone can see their rolls or abs. Furthermore the t-shirts can be too tight under the under arms which can cause an uncomfortable feeling. _____________________________ Furthermore, in boys shorts, the pockets are really baggy, which makes the boys look daggy and ratty. As a long time student at our school, Sarah Camera states, “I have been at this school for seven years and I have tried to convince the principal to change these ugly uniforms but she has said no”. _____________________________ In addition to that, the uniforms are really plain and boring. They have no colour or pattern except for blue. Also when the students go on excursions people think that our school uniforms are boring and we are getting a bad reputation. When kids go to school they want to wear comfortable and fashionable clothes, not ugly and dull clothes. _____________________________ _____________________________ _____________________________ _____________________________ _____________________________ _____________________________ _____________________________ _____________________________ _____________________________ _____________________________ _____________________________ _____________________________ In conclusion, many students and parents want to wear comfortable colourful and thin breezy clothes. Do you want your kids wearing non vibrant clothes that are so dull that it ruins their reputation? _____________________________ _____________________________ _____________________________ STOP THIS HORRENDOUS CRIME Write your own persuasive notes in the space next to the piece. Do you believe that animal testing should be performed? Only a fool would think that animals should be tested on. Animals will be injured, they shouldn’t be treated as guinea pigs and the results will always be different on humans than animals. Firstly, the results of tests on animals will always be different than on humans. All the scientists that do tests on animals should know that results will be different on humans. It is crazy to think that just because they get good results on animals they can put their products on sale. How do they know that humans won’t have a reaction to the product? Think about this, do you honestly believe that animals don’t get injured? Well if you do, you’re wrong. Animals go through being poked and prodded by needles and getting poison put into them. How would you feel if you were locked up in a cage and lathered in weird lotions and potions all day, every day? Thirdly and finally, animals should not be treated like guinea pigs. How would you like it if you were being experimented on like a mouse, rabbit or guinea pig? You would most like be completely miserable and depressed. In conclusion this is why I believe that animal testing should not be performed, the results on animals will be different on humans, they will certainly be injured in every test and the animals are lock in little cages being treated like guinea pigs. So join me in the fight to release these poor helpless animals. _____________________________ _____________________________ _____________________________ _____________________________ _____________________________ _____________________________ _____________________________ _____________________________ _____________________________ _____________________________ _____________________________ _____________________________ _____________________________ _____________________________ _____________________________ _____________________________ _____________________________ _____________________________ _____________________________ _____________________________ _____________________________ NOTES Remember your persuasive piece must have an introduction, a main body and a conclusion.
