Reflective log on acute renal failure

Reflective log
Acute kidney failure occurs when your kidneys suddenly become unable to filter waste products
from your blood. When your kidneys lose their filtering ability, dangerous levels of wastes may
accumulate, and your blood's chemical makeup may get out of balance. Alscher, M. D., Erley,
C., & Kuhlmann, M. K. (2019)
At first when I came to know with the situation, I feel sorrow for old man and feel agitated for
his painful condition. Patient feels low self-esteem due to disease condition. Now I feel that if we
take care of our health properly we can reduce the many complications to happen.
Now I evaluate the situation as a virtuous for me to encounter such condition’s patient in my
clinical experience and the patient was relaxed because he was vigilantly cared.
The unpleasant in the situation was seeing the men in difficult condition. This was hard for a
family to see their loved one in affliction.
By analyzing the whole situation during assessment I perceive that the family and men was
provided with adequate knowledge about disease condition and they were counselled to help
relieve anxiety by physician and staff nurses. By studying theory, it helps me to experience more
about condition. The most frequent causes of renal failure are GNs, renal artery occlusion,
ischemia, and nephrotoxins. (Koza, Y. , 2016) Laboratory test that confirm its diagnosis includes
abdominal ultrasound and further test are also needed like ERCP, abdominal X-ray , WBS count
and laboratory test for conjugated bilirubin , serum amylase , urine output measurements ,
removing a sample of kidney tissue for testing. Alscher, M. D., Erley, C., & Kuhlmann, M. K.
(2019) Sign and symptoms that show this condition include decreased urine output, although
occasionally urine output remains normal, fluid retention, causing swelling in legs, ankles or
feet, shortness of breath, fatigue, confusion, nausea, weakness, irregular heartbeat. (Bastard.
Et.al; 2019) Treatments include balance the amount of fluids in your blood, medications to
control blood potassium, medications to restore blood calcium levels, dialysis to remove toxins
from your blood.
At the end I conclude that I have learned a lot from this experience. And it could be evidence of
achievement of placement competencies.
In Future I will try my best to be a good care provider. For this I will improve my Nursing
skills and practices that will help me to achieve my proficiencies in practice.
