The Government is responsible for the management of all the sectors in the nation along with
providing services and protection to its citizens. To perform effectively, the government needs to
have information about the market and the population. Big data and big data analytics are one of
the most practical alternative for government to acquire the real time information it needs to
perform its functions effectively.
The current research will look into the plan to use Big Data for the Government. The use of Big
Data will give the government access to updated data and trends in the economy. If properly used,
big data could lead to improvements in the national economy, public services delivery and national
security (Wang & Yamazaki, 2018). This essay shall explore the most important benefits of the
use of big data for government activities.
On the other hand, improper use or poor protection of the data could have undesirable
consequences. The government collects and keeps large amounts of data about all sectors of the
economy. Access to this data by third parties or malicious use by government agents and agencies
could result in security threats, loss of private data confidentiality, along with inability to maintain
a global edge (Luvembe & Mutai, 2019). In some cases, the methods used by government agencies
to collect data can be considered improper surveillance.
