With Semester 1 reports coming home tomorrow, here are a few reminders: Students receive an overall grade for English which includes skills in listening, reading, viewing, speaking, writing and creating. Students are often stronger in one component of English than others, however the grade is an overall assessment and takes into consideration a child’s development in each area. Mathematics grades are based on topics covered during Semester 1, from the following areas: Number & Algebra, Measurement & Geometry, and Statistics & Probability. An ‘A’ grade indicates that the student has shown a thorough knowledge and understanding of a topic and can apply that information in unfamiliar situations. Typically, a ‘C’ grade means a student is achieving what is expected of them at that point in their learning. This is a considerable achievement because of the high expectations built in to the achievement standards. An ‘E’ grade means the student is just beginning to work towards the achievement standard. Please see the attached ‘Written report’ document by the Education Department for more information.
