Introduction According to Cambridge University Press (2019), the definition of discrimination of gender and sexuality is treating a person in the worst way possible but in this case insulting gender and sexuality of a person. There are two situations that discrimination occurs which are gender discrimination in workspace and lack of legal rights (The Borgen Project,2019). Back when life was rough for women, women are not given the same right as men (Gender Discrimination,2019). For example, education and occupations were very limited. In 1880, the efforts to prove equality of gender and sexuality occurred (Gender Discrimination,2019). In addition, the reasons for gender discrimination is male’s self-perception, lack of acceptance in society and insecurities of men and women. Moreover, drastic steps should be taken to solve this problem regarding the discrimination of gender and sexuality. An example of a drastic step is by the government taking a step ahead to enforce the laws. This essay investigates the problems that this gender and sexual discrimination culture poses on society, suggests reasonable solutions for the problems and evaluates the effectiveness of these solutions. Situation These days, gender and sexuality discrimination has aggravated the gender discrimination in workplace and the lack of legal rights. Firstly, gender discrimination in workplace is one of the major aspects that leads to gender and sexuality discrimination. It is proven that women are treated unfairly compared to men and this has also caused social differences and comparing of status to occur. According to Summer (2003), women are often grouped as people with less status which eventually contributes to people having a conception about women have lack of capability. Moreover, women are being belittled and this results in low expectation regarding their talents and their capability. The next example is men are given more responsibilities and given more chances to lead on the other hand women are equally capable but they are not given the opportunity to be a leader (Summer,2003). This shows that women are often excluded from vital meeting and conversations in a working place (Summer,2003). Thus, the lack of opportunities for women is considered a concerning situation that leads to gender and sexuality discrimination. Secondly, the lack of legal rights has its major effects on the discrimination of gender and sexuality. The lack of legal rights has caused the safety of women to be concerning as lack of legal rights also results in the lack of protection on their daily lives. According to Telegraph Media Group Limited (2019), domestic abuse has been a major issue faced by people in rural areas such as India where one third of the girls in India face domestic violence. This shows that the lack of legal rights has resulted in men taking advantage of this situation which is mentally and physically abusing women (Telegraph Media Group Limited,2019). The next evidence is the women in Saudi Arabia are not allowed to drive on the road and this is also being caused by the men whom are controlling over their wives (Human Right Watch,2019). According to Human Right Watch (2019), women were not allowed to travel on vehicles by vehicles as per to religion factors. Hence, the lack of legal rights can lead to the discrimination of gender and sexuality. In summary, if discrimination of gender and sexuality is not addressed, there could be serious repercussions.
