Creating Complex Sentences Worksheet
A complex sentence contains an independent clause and a dependent
clause. An independent clause is a complete sentence that can stand on its
own. A dependent clause is not a complete sentence for it cannot stand on
its own.
Dependent clauses start with subordinating conjunctions such as: after, so,
because, since, although, even though, before, unless, whenever etc…
Directions: Write an independent clause to complete each complex sentence. Use
the connecting words.
Example A: Wherever you go,____________________________.
Answer: Wherever you go, you will have friends.

3. Before the game, _________________________________________________.
4. Since we were early, ___ ___________________________________________.
5. Because she is rich, ________________________________________________.
Directions: Write a dependent clause to complete each complex sentence. Use
the connecting words (so, after, when, because, or since).
Example A: ____________________________, he still was friends with him.
Answer: After twenty years, he still was friends with him.
6. _______________________________, we will have to go home.
7. _______________________________, we will have to wait in line.
8. _______________________________, the children are now hungry.
