“At BNMIT Education is for Life, not just for Livelihood”
From the Secretary’s Desk
The meaning of the above stanza is self-evident, nothing comes from nothing,
and nothing ever could. Success and achievements are commensurate with
will power, hard work, grit, resourcefulness and single-minded approach.
The day has come when every student should realize that with Globalization
and the tumultuous changes we see in the international scenario, the
multinational companies and the corporate world have changed their outlook
and methods of assessment of the prospective candidates for offering jobs.
Earlier high percentage marks in examinations with distinctions were the
only criteria for top jobs. Now the trends have changed and the students
are chosen not just for good marks, but more than that they are tested for
knowledge they have retained with them. Hence gathering knowledge,
understanding, and retaining are more important than studying for exams
getting high marks and forgetting thereafter.
A saying goes like this “Ordinary things done in an extraordinary way make
people great”.
“Heights by great men reached
and held, Were not attained by a
sudden flight. But they while their
companions slept, were toiling
upward in the night!”
“ The Natural Beauty at BNMIT is
Captivating, Enchanting and Magical.”
At BNMIT you are not only prepared for gaining knowledge but you are also
given an opportunity to equip yourselves with cultural activities, sports,
nature awareness, adventure activities, social services, etc. It has become an
additional and important parameter for companies to decide on the right
candidate for the top jobs. All this is possible at BNMIT which is located in the
beautiful Banashankari area and endowed with an excellent infrastructure,
coupled with peaceful environment, offering hassle-free study options. The
natural beauty at BNMIT is captivating, enchanting and magical. It is like a
feast for the tired eyes, mind, body and soul. The meticulously manicured
gardens interspersed with fountains that are like a blessing and an experience
that is best when it is felt. BNM`s vision is to provide an all-round excellence
in education along with multiple skill acquisition to all those students who
enter its portals.
Wishing you all the BEST.
Narayan Rao R. Maanay
Secretary.

YOGA Practice as Part of Curriculum
Health is a State of Complete Physical, Mental and Social well-being and not merely the Absence of Disease or Infirmity —World Health Organization
How many of us, so called healthy people, satisfy WHO’s criteria of health? Are
the present health systems adequate to achieve this? Is there a scientifically
acceptable path for total health that has been unearthed?
The answer is Yes….!!!
It is natural that our body and mind gets disturbed and strained because of
the fast pace of our life and the ups and downs of life in the present scenario.
The art of maintaining a cool temperament and relaxed mind in spite of these
inevitable disturbing factors is an art.
In a bid to promote health consciousness among students, the University
Grants Commission (UGC) has proposed setting up of a system that offers
yoga and meditation classes to students on the university campus and
also at affiliated colleges. The move came as a result of the addressed by
Prime Minister Shriman Narendra Modi at the United Nations (UN), where
he urged one and all to adopt International Yoga Day. According to UGC’s
recommendations, the programme involving lessons on yoga and meditation
will raise health awareness among students. This will provide students a
positive outlook to life and decrease stress. UGC officials further state that, “A
clean and healthy mind is as important as clean environment”. Even All India
Council for Technical Education (AICTE) has advocated yoga session as part
of the curriculum.
Education implies collection, classification and processing of information
from the outside world. This demands alertness to quickly accept information
and concentration to process it. Our environment has many distractions that
hinder this process.
Though the World Health Organization stressed the importance of Yoga for
quite some time it is after our Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s address
at WHO, both UGC and AICTE started promoting Yoga for students. It is
noteworthy that BNMIT recognized the importance of Yoga for students
much before these recommendations and organized Yoga classes for
positive physical and mental development that creates an ambience of cool
and balanced mind amidst natural distractions.
These classes on Yoga kept stress at bay enabling BNMIT students to tolerate
strain associated with life. Yoga sessions every morning helped students
maintain harmony between body and spirit. It also increased attention span,
improved memory and sharpened focus apart from physical and emotional
wellness. BNMIT has realised all the benefits long before the various
government bodies advocated implementation of yoga as mentioned above
and have made it a part of the curriculum.

Cultural Activities
KALA BHAGEERATHI, the cultural club of BNMIT identifies and nurtures the inherent talent among the students and provides a platform to exibit their skills in
various fields like ABHINAYA, NAATYA, SANGEETHA, FINE ARTS and LITERARY EVENTS. One of the activities of KALA BHAGEERATHI is ‘BNM IDOL’ where the best
singers compete for the elite title. The cultural team under the able guidance of Prof.N.Sheshaprasad, with ample support from the management, has excelled in
all its endeavors.
“KALA BHAGEERATHI” student members are invited on every Ramanavami day celebrations to give music and dance concerts at Dharmagiri Manjunatha temple.
The BNMIT cultural team has always given stiff competition at the university youth festival every year, which is the biggest event of the year where almost all
Engineering colleges under VTU participate. The “KALA BHAGEERATHI” team has regularly progressed in VTU Intercollegiate Cultural Festivals from 6th Place in
2003, runners up in the year 2006, and has won the coveted top place among all Engineering colleges of Karnataka in 2010 and earned a place to represent VTU in
the South India Inter-university Youth Festival and has won many prizes. BNMIT also represented VTU in the South India Inter-university Youth Festival in 2011`and
Krishna T V won silver medal and he represented VTU in the NATIONAL LEVEL Competitions held at Tirupati. In 2012 & 2015, Our college team was Second Runner
– up at the annual VTU Festival.

Besides the VTU fest, our students have bagged many prizes in various inter collegiate cultural festivals organized by engineering colleges like IIT Madras,
UVCE, NITTE, PESIT, RNSIT, BMSCE, AMC, RVCE, Sir MVIT & CMRIT. The very opportunity to participate at the university level provides each one of the students, a
multitude of exposure and experience. The Kala Bhageerathi students multitask and work as a team.
The entire experience is enriching and plays a unique role in BNMIT’s efforts to go beyond academics. A very heartening note about Kala Bhageerathi is that
all the participants invariably are distinction holders proving that extracurricular activities enhances academic performance contrary to the general belief that
sports, NSS, cultural and Environmental activities come in the way of good academic performance.

Adventure & Nature Club
BNM FRIENDS OF NATURE CLUB established in 1995 believes that an
understanding of nature will give each individual a better perspective of the
world as well as himself. The nature club believes that the public should be
made aware of the precarious situation our mother earth finds herself with
regard to the Global Warming, Ozone layer depletion, consequent major
changes in climatic conditions, erratic monsoon and the consequent floods
and drought that would make healthy life on earth next to impossible.
The admission to the nature club is based on the performance of the student
in the Entrance Test. Here the students are tested for their interest in wild life
conservation and awareness of the environment, previous social activities
undertaken etc.
48
Blood donation camp by NSS unit of BNMIT
The club is led by Sri Narayan Rao R. Maanay, Secretary BNMIT and assisted
by Prof. N. Sheshaprasad and has about 300 student members. First and
fore most, they are taught about the importance of our environment and its
conservation, awareness about their responsibilities and knowledge of the
flora and fauna.
Further, the members are exposed to adventure sports of Para sailing,
Mountaineering, Trekking, Water Sports, Environmental Awareness Programs,
Tree Planting, Bird Watching, field trips and bi-annual wilderness camps, etc.,
along with regular audio visual programs and screening of Green Oscar award
winning films & documentaries of wild life conservation and environment
protection.
Most of the birds are going away from the city as in the name of development;
thousands of trees have been cut everyday to broaden the roads. Hence this
club has installed a number of NESTING BOXES along with BIRD FEEDERS to
give the birds a safe place to live and breed. The members are also encouraged
to do wild life photography & essay writing about the trip and the winners
are given attractive prizes. The nature club gives most of the students an
opportunity to break free from regular routine and experience the complex
life in all its simplicity. The major and satisfying achievement of the “Nature
club” as well as the other units like cultural forum “Kala Bhageerathi”, the
Sports association as well as the other associations is that the participants
have an outstanding record in their academics improving from first class to
distinctions and more. This has virtually quashed the common belief that
students are distracted from their studies by taking part in extracurricular
activities as felt by many parents.
BNM believes that the students in this age group are bubbling with energy
and need to relax as they cannot be studying all the time. If they are not
engaged in these productive activities to use their spare time and spend
their energy, there is every possibility that they would use the same for
unacceptable activities.
BNM Photography Club
The club provides an opportunity to the student members the art of creative,
nature and wildlife photography and to capture the beautiful moments with
the able guidance of Prof. Eishwar. N. Maanay, where the members are also
taught technology involved in photography at the exclusive editing studio
and they edit the photos with the help of latest technology.

Nostalgic Moments and Alumni Association
I am very happy to say that I was a student of proud
institution BNMIT. In this institute discipline is given
highest priority, discipline is meant not only for
students but also for all staff members, discipline
is followed in different aspects like attendance,
time, dress code and not using cell phones within
campus etc. Experienced faculty provided excellent
lectures, mentoring students, guiding for seminars
and projects. Well equipped laboratory with all necessary software installed
motivating students to develop their projects within institute. Good R&D
center for carrying research. Incubation center helps lot of students. Almost
all students are placed at graduate level. Workshops are arranged regularly in
collaboration with Computer Society of India.
Thanks with regards

It’s not only important that every student graduates
with flying colours, it is of utmost importance that
they come out as a respectable human being. B.N.M.I.T.
ensures this off every outgoing student. The institute
has provided us with excellent laboratory facilities.
Having been the main coordinator for the college
technical fest TATVA in the year 2015, I was able to
develop good organizing abilities and get a very good
exposure. Regular visits to industries and exhibits organized by the college
have helped me and my fellow students gain a ton of knowledge outside this
institute too.

This institution has a highly sophisticated Auditorium. This
is first time for me that, I have delivered my speech in such a
beautiful Auditorium.
I have visited more than 800 institutions and not seen anywhere
such a wonderful Auditorium. I am of the opinion that, if an institution, can
provide such an excellent infrastructure, it can certainly produce excellent
students. I appreciate the students for their academic achievements and
other extra-curricular activities.
Prof. Roddam Narashimha, Director, National Institute of Advanced Studies.
