INTRODUCTION Slide 1/ open hands/move/ calm face/high volume A. Attention Getter: According to The American Cancer Society it reported that there will be roughly 65,620 new cases of uterine cancer in 2020 and roughly 12,590 will die from uterine cancer. However, research has proven that there are ways to reduce this fearful large number that affects the women of our society. B. Reason to Listen: Therefore, you should listen to this as this affects the women of our population like mothers, daughters, cousins and female friends. C. Thesis Statement: The birth control pill is better than the depo shot. 1. I myself am a woman and it’s very alarming to know the facts, that I want to know how to prevent it. 2. The research I’ve conducted is being on birth control for five year II. BODY. Slide 2/Palms together/ concerned face/high volume A. Need Step: The depo shot is worse than the birth control pill. D. Credibility Statement: 1. The depo shot also known as the Depo- Provera shot is an injection that you get once every three months for prevention of pregnancy. The depo shot has some alarming side effects that makes one wonder if it is worth it. However, this type of birth control pill isn’t for everybody and can cause more problems rather than help, which is what a birth control is supposed to do. The birth control clearly pill being a much better alternative and less problematic as compared to the depo shot. a. According to Guttmacher Institute in 2014 research has demonstrated that the most effective method of birth control is the pill, beating the depo shot by 7%. This signifies how ineffective the depo shot really is, compared to the birth control beating it by a 7% and being 99% effective. b. According to Rachel Nall the side effects of the depo shot are a little alarming as she states in her article that doctors recommend that a person taking the depo shot to intake calcium supplements to reduce the risk of bone loss. This type of birth control is meant to reduce the risk of pregnancy and not create worrisome problems with our bones. Thinking about it in the long run it would now cost you even more having to do the purchasing of the calcium supplements. This isn’t what a birth control should do. Slide 3/ Hands open/ bright face/regular volume B. Solution Step: The birth control pill is better than the depo shot. 1. The birth control pill is a much better alternative to the depo shot birth control. It provides a more conscience type of protection against pregnancy. The side effects aren’t so alarming and provide the same, and if not more of a positive outcome for the person on the birth control pill rather than any other type of birth control. a. According to Rachel Nall the birth control pill is a more efficient type of birth control. The birth control is often known to regulate periods. Often if women would like to even not have their period for how painful it may be the birth control could very well serve that purpose. Also, the birth control helps minimize cramping which could benefit young teenagers. b. In addition, Rachel Nall discuses there are additional uses of the birth control pill that serve more purposes other than to just prevent pregnancy. For example like one of them being to treat acne. To add on the birth control pill is often used by young teenage girls fight against acne that is usually caused by their period at the time of development. So the birth control pill could very well benefit women and young teenagers. C. Visualization: Slide 4/ Basketball position/move/ calm face/regular volume (Use positive/negative or contrast strategies and make arguments to help your audience to visualize your solution step; what happens if your solution will take or will not take place. 1. The birth control pill also known as oral contraceptive is a medication that contains a mix of estrogen and progesterone, this needs to be taken every day in order to prevent pregnancy. However, some women and teenagers take this birth control pill for more than just to prevent pregnancy. Women intake birth control pills for the very positive side effects the pill causes that benefit the women and young teenagers taking them. a. According to Charlotte Anderson a study found that women who were on the birth control pill are protected for up to 30 years from getting uterine and cervical cancer. This type of cancer is a cancer that only affects women. This is significant because it affects half of our human population. This is information that many women do not know and I’m pretty sure some of the women that have suffered through this cancer would’ve been on the pill if they knew it would help them. b. In addition Anderson states that women who were on the birth control pill slashed their risk of having endometrial cancer by a significant 25%, also this effect lasted for over 35 years after the women were off the pill. So, in essence you wouldn’t even have to be for years and years on the pill. The decrease in actually getting endometrial cancer would decrease and the effect would still last over 25 years III. CONCLUSION: ACTION STEP Slide5/ palm together/calm face A. Restate Thesis: Therefore, the birth control pill is much better than the depo shot. B Call for Action: Which is why I strongly recommend to any women on a birth control to switch over to the birth control pill at a place like Planned Parenthood where the product is effective. C. Closure: The birth control pill has many advantages that benefit the female body and none of the negative alarming side effects other birth control pills contain. This birth control pill is a good tool that could very well protect a mother, a daughter, a friend and even you amongst very common scary cancers that affect the female body.
