UNIVERSITY OF THE EAST Manila LITERATURE DOOR DECORATING CONTEST In order to be eligible, participants in the LITERATURE DOOR DECORATING CONTEST must submit a JPEG photo of their door project by February 20, 2020 in UE SHS ENGLISH CLUB face book page. Guidelines 1. Each class will be assigned a specific door decorate. 2. In a creative way, a door must illustrate “a chosen English Literary piece”. 3. Obscene or inappropriate symbols, drawings, words, phrases, etc. are not allowed in the contest. 4. The use of glue gun, double-sided tape and other adhesive devices that might ruin the door paint is strictly prohibited. 5. No markings should be put on the door. 6. The use of recyclable materials is highly encouraged. 7. The door design project will be personally viewed by the judges at February 21, 2019. Criteria for judging Each door project will be guided by the following score sheet: Presentation quality ____/5 Does it stand out? Does the design showcase how the group overcome the limitation of a door as a back drop? Creativity ____/5 Is the design aesthetically pleasing? Total:________________ ____/5 UNIVERSITY OF THE EAST Manila BOOK FLIX: Book Talk Sessions A book talk is a short presentation about a book with the goal of convincing other people to read it. It’s not a formal book report or review. And, it’s more persuasive than expository—think sales and marketing. In a book talk, the goal is to engage the listeners and present a fun, exciting, and even suspenseful commercial for your book. Mechanics 1. This event is open to all senior high school students who are passionate about books. 2. Book talker (BT) shall give the gist or highlight of the book for 5-7 minutes. 3. Book talk should include the following: Opening Gist Impression Closing Take away 4. Book talker should submit a PowerPoint presentation about the session in advance to the event organizers. UNIVERSITY OF THE EAST Manila BOOK BLIND DATE: Book Swap Mechanics: 1. This event is open to all senior high school students who are passionate about books. 2. Participants of the book swap will bring a book that they have already read (see guidelines below for the kinds of books legible to be swapped). The book must be covered in newspaper (for surprise effect) and must contain a short note/message for the next owner. 3. The book must be given to the organizers before the event i.e. February 18-21 (see persons in-charge). Upon giving the book, the participant shall receive a brokenheart shaped coupon as a proof of joining. The participant must keep this until the book swap event. 4. On the book swap day, Feb. 21, 2019 (10:30-11:30), participants will proceed to the AVR, FD 3rd floor. They can now claim their book blind date using their coupons. UNIVERSITY OF THE EAST Manila LOVE LANGUAGES: A photo essay competition Mechanics: 1. This event is open to all senior high school students who are into photography and creative writing. 2. There should only be one entry per person to be submitted via a public facebook status with the hashtags #AWarriorsLoveLanguage #UESHSEnglishWeek2019 and shared with the UE SHS English Club page. 3. With the theme “A Warrior’s Love language”, participants will capture a photo related to the theme. The photo must be captioned with a one-three paragraph short essay composed of 200-500 words. It
