10 Things I learned

1. I just learned that beats are caused by interference
2. I just learned that when two sounds that are close in frequency meet, occasionally the
crests line up and “swell” as they constructively interfere
3. I just learned that with all of the above happening, this is what makes a “beat”.
4. I just learned that a beat is not the same as striking a drum head or any other source of
musical rhythm.
5. I just learned that superposition is the combination of two or more waves.
6. I just learned that constructive and destructive interference are examples of superposition.
7. I already knew that waves that constructively interfere add together to make bigger
waves.
8. I already knew that waves that destructively interfere subtract to cancel each other out.
9. I just learned that the “doppler effect” is when a moving object pushes the air ahead of it
closer together.
10. I just learned that this causes the frequency of sounds in the air to increase.
