Introductory points at first lecture, phys-102
What do you expect to learn from this course? This is what
I expect:

Mechanical Waves, Sound, Superposition and
standing waves, resonance, Doppler shifts (police
radar)

Thermodynamics: temperature, T1+T2 = ??,
entropy, engines, Brownian motion

E&M: Coulomb, Gauss, Currents, Kirchhoff’s law,
circuits, Magnetism, Ampere’s law
What is the role of the instructor(s) in physics? Instruct
formal + intuitive, interact w/ students, assist in problem
solving, write on the black board??
What are office hours for?
How many hours do you intend to spend studying physics
every week?
Give me two good reasons why you can be absent in
some of the lectures/ sessions. The physics department
absence policy, taking attendance.
What grade do you expect to get in this course?
Concentrate on concepts in exams.
What do you do if you do not understand.
