THE PROBLEM AND ITS BACKGROUND
Introduction
Stealing Identity is one of the most growing problems here in the Philippines due to the
significant economic harm. Nowadays, it has become a common practice for users to use their
true identity.
The Internet has played a major role in disseminating information about stealing identity,
both in terms of risks and information on how individuals may avoid victimization. It has also
been identified as a major contributor to identity theft because of the environment of anonymity
and the opportunities it provides offenders or would-be offenders to obtain basic components
of other persons’ identities.
Phishing is one of the social engineering methods that gathers personal information
through websites such as your name, address, birthday and any personal information from
individual. Phishing often attacks email by using as a vehicle and even sending messages by
email to users that represent a part of a company or an institution who act like business such
as financial institution, banking etc. Phishing is becoming more malicious day by day and its

cyber-attacks, the most common method of gaining access to your passwords and information
may surprise you- it is just by asking for it. In cyberspace, phishing is motivating the researchers
to develop the model through which we can develop more security towards the safe services

Availability of personal information data on the internet has increased the possibility of
this cybercrime. Phishing comes out by the combination of cyber-crimes from one side and lake
of users' awareness and training also disregard to safeguard personal data from another side.
The best tool that consumers have to protect themselves from identity theft is education and
awareness which often times leads to early detection. Due the growth of Internet technology.
One such a serious threat is “phishing”, in which, attackers attempt to steal the user’s identity
using fake emails or websites or both.
