Activity 1.1 What happens when these substances are mixed together?
,.~mo Procedure
1. Squirt water .on a block of wood and place a beaker directly on top of the water.
2. Measure 32 grams of bariutn hydroxide octahydrate and record its temperature.
3. Measure 10 grams of ammonium chloride and record its temperature.
4. Combine the two solids and tnix them well; Record all observations.
5. Record the temperature of the mixture. You tnlght have to take the temperature multiple times to make sure
you get the final temperature.

Materials: Small plastic cup, Plastic Spoon, Calcium Chloride, CaCl2, Thermometer, 10 ml Graduated Cylinder
Procedure - Part A
•
1. Record the temperature of Calcium Chloride using the temperature of the classroom
2. Add 10 ml of water to a small plastic cup
3. Record the temperature of the water in the cup using a thermometer.
4. Add a small spoonful of calcium chloride to the water and swirl the cup, noting observations below.
5. After it has stopped changing, record the temperature of the solution in the cup
