Dimitri Kaipat EN101-06 3/24/2020 Great Moghul Diamond Koh-i-noor summary Two of the most famous diamonds in the world are the Great Mogul diamond and the Koh-i-noor diamond. The Great Mogul diamond is “the largest diamond ever found in India” and was found “in the Golconda mines in 1650 and subsequently was cut by the Venetian lapidary Hortentio Borgis.” It is uncertain of its current location and parts of the stone such as the Orlov diamond or the Koh-i-noor diamond was removed after the murder of the owner. The history of the Koh-i-noor diamond is argued about a lot and was given to “the founder of the Mughal dynasty in India.” The Koh-i-noor lacked fire and shape making the Great Mogul diamond “unlikely” when compared to it. The death of the founder of the Durrani dynasty of Afghans led to confiscation of the stone to the Sikh ruler. In 1849, the stone was in the hands of the British and was later a part of the queen state’s crown as the “central stone” in 1937.
