Grammar Exercise, Vocabulary List, Reading Comprehension Questions
At the end of the lesson, students will be able to:
 learn and apply new vocabulary and grammar conventions to improve their written English language proficiency;
 apply strategies to read for comprehension;
 demonstrate their knowledge and understanding of narratives through written and verbal responses with prompts; and
 demonstrate and express their understanding of key literary elements.
Once a student has enrolled in this course, the assistant teacher should have them:
 Read chapters 1 & 2.
 Look up words they don’t understand in a dictionary or internet.
 Preview the key vocabulary (A).


Preview the reading comprehension exercises (B). Some of the questions will be used as writing samples and prompts in-class.

Search for pictures of the vocabulary words on Google to give student a visual impression.

(B) Grammar Exercises: Gerunds (“ing” verbs)
A gerund is a verb with an –ing ending. It can do different things in sentences.
Examples: coming rumbling crouching deafening
To make a gerund, you can add -ING to most verbs EXCEPT verbs that end in E like come. Then we need to remove the E first THEN add –ING

Exercise 1: Underline the gerunds (ING ending) in the sentences.
