No one grows up envisioning working under someone else. Everyone is born with goals and aspirations of being their own boss. There is nothing wrong with working for a company or having a boss in the beginning stages of their life, but there will come a certain time in your life where you will grow tired of being controlled. Being controlled is being of the average American. I refuse to follow suit and be average in the world. I wake up every day with ambitions of being above average, and being a beneficiary to my community and society. I hold various roles within my school and my community that call for me to display great character and leadership. A leader is somebody who has the ability to influence masses. John C. Maxwell once said “A leader is one who knows the way, goes the way, and shows the way.” This quote used to be the perfect description of what a leader is. In contemporary society, however, it seems as if now a day’s anybody can be deemed a “leader.” The people in my generation put rappers, singers, athletes, and celebrities on a certain pedestal and look towards them for guidance. One cannot evolve as a person having negative role models. Alexander the Great once said “I am not afraid of an army of lions led by a sheep; I am afraid of an army of sheep led by a lion.” This quote clearly explains how strong leadership can influence others. A great leader is one who brings the best out of those who adhere to him or her. If your leadership proves faulty, then your people will also suffer. I pray to God every day that he blesses me with the patience of Job, the wisdom of Paul, the courage of David, the perseverance of Moses, and the love of Jesus, that I will have the ability to lead every person that I come in contact with down the right path. Leadership is a powerful tool to have in changing the world. As I grow older and wiser I only hope that my leadership skills can mirror those of the men that I quoted in the earlier paragraph and allow me to be accepted into the National Honor Society, here at New Manchester High School. Thank you to the National Honor Society Committee for the opportunity to submit my application to you. I am honored to be considered as a potential candidate of the National Honor Society for the upcoming year, and thank you for taking the time to review my credentials. Thank you in advance for your consideration and I look forward to hearing from you in the future.
