Ms. Sandsky
1. Pt stated that she now wants to take care of her dental conditions. The pt is also willing to
take care of her dental conditions, she stated “she brushes and flosses daily now in hopes
that these actions can help her keep her teeth.” Pt also stopped smoking and it’s been over
8 years.
2.
3. The history of smoking related to Ms. Sandsky’s past and current risk for periodontal
disease is that “smoking is associated with a greater amount of alveolar bone destruction
in comparison to nonsmokers” (pg. 385). In other words, due to her smoking habits her
chances for bone loss is high even if she quit 10 years ago, because “In a 10-year
longitudinal study, reduction in bone height was 2.7 times greater in adult smokers
compared to nonsmokers” (pg. 385). Even though it has been about 8 years since she
stopped smoking, she's still at risk for attachment loss.
4. The signs of gingival inflammation that are evident free gingival margin is apical to the
CEJ; the color is dark red at the givingal margin of tooth number 8-12, and pale pink at
the gingival margin of tooth number 2-4 and 32-28. The maxillary lingual is swollen, and
bulbous.
5. The etiologic risk factors for gingival and periodontal diseases that are evident is Ms.
Sandsky’s clinical photographs, showing signs of recession on #5, 6, 12 and 21, staining,
and light calculus.
6. Yes, Ms. Sandsky’s periodontal evaluation clearly indicates that she has attachment loss
present on most teeth.
7. What’s causing the space between the upper front teeth is bone loss
8. The etiologic risk factors for gingival and periodontal diseases that are evident are Ms.
Sandsky’s dental radiograph, furcation, bone loss, and overhanging margins.
9. I would characterize Ms. Sandsky’s periodontal condition as periodontitis, due to her
bone loss, probe depth reading, migration of the JE, the gingival margin is apical to the
CEJ. In perio staging and grading, she’s a stage III grade progression, because due to the
lack of information, and evidence we don't know how long this disease has been going
on.
