Personnel Manpower, Qualification and Hierarchy Manpower The duties of painter are: Clean the wall surfaces before applying painting on it. Applying the waterproofing membrane on the floor surface and tiles to prevent the flowing of the paint. Fill the holes and mock up before applying paint. Calculate area of the wall surfaces and other component that need to be applied paint. Calculate formula of the colour paint. Apply primers or sealer coat on the wall surface. Purchase paint from the supplier. Provide the manpower or workers to enter the construction site or building to work. Apply paint on the wall using brushes, roller or spray. Types of painter: Construction painter. Entering to the construction site or building to apply coating, painting, and staining to the exterior wall, interior wall or other components like door frames, window frames and others. Maintenance painter. The workers remove the old painting and apply new layer or coating on the wall. Artisan painter. The workers are specialize in finishes therefore they need decorative technique. Qualification The painter require a certificate on Certified Protective Coating Technician (Blaster and Painter) from The Institute of Materials, Malaysia (IMM). The certificate is in line with ISO9001 process control and reduce micro inspection. Apart of that, other relevant certificate that admitted by the government also accepted. Hierarchy Main Contractor Sub-contractor trainned and skilled painters The main contractor is the party that carry out supervision on the construction site and building after the painting work done. The main contractor are required to record down the quality of work and filled in the documentation after checking. This is to ensure the quality assurance and quality control of the work done. The sub-contractor is the party that getting substitute job from the main contractor. For painting work, they are usually more professional and specialize than the main contractor. They have skills and experience on purchasing painting and applying the colour paint on the wall surfaces and other components of the building such as door frame. The skilled and trained painter are the workers that applying paint. They usually work and follow sub-contractor’s instruction to carrying out painting work. Some of them may not have certificate, but they are experience and being trained by sub-contractor.
