Always follow
directions carefully!
• Following directions
include listening to
verbal instructions
• performing only
authorized
experiments
• completing any prelab assignment
before the actual
laboratory is begun
Protective Gear
• Protective clothing such as goggles,
aprons, gloves, etc. must be worn when
appropriate or deemed necessary by the
teacher.
Dress appropriately
for lab.
• Long hair should be tied back
• Loose sleeves and open toed
shoes should be avoided

Never drink or eat in
the laboratory

Never sit on the
laboratory tables or
stack clothes on it.

Chemicals

• Do not pipette chemicals by mouth
• Never taste chemicals
• Always wash your hands after handling
chemicals or wear gloves.
Wearing contact lenses
is discouraged.
• When working with certain chemicals that
generate fumes, contact lenses can trap
chemicals against the eye.
Stay informed!
Your teacher will inform
you about the effects of
certain chemicals or
other procedures used in
experiments on your
health. If you have a
condition (pregnant,
epilepsy, etc) which may
be affected by the
experiment, please
inform the teacher.

Using heat
• When heating, be careful not to touch hot
surfaces
• Always point test tubes away from yourself
and others
• If you are burned, placed the injured area
immediately under cold water and tell the
teacher.
Horseplay and loud
talking in the lab is
NOT permitted.

Know the location of
all safety equipment
• the eyewash
• shower
• fire blanket
• fire extinguisher
• room exits
Report any injury
immediately to the teacher.

neglect or vandalism.
