CALENDAR OF EVENTS
2nd Kingsville BEAVER SCOUTS
PLEASE NOTE: The events listed below could change based on leader availability, weather
conditions and resources. Please expect regular e-mail updates. Unless noted otherwise
(offsite events bolded), Beavers meet Tuesdays from 6-7 p.m. at Kingsville Public School.

(SATURDAY) Canoeing at Cedar Creek Conservation Area
• The Conservation Area is located on Arner Townline. It is the first laneway south of CR 20 on the
right – just before the bridge and Camp Cedarwin.
• Parents please plan to stay and accompany your Beavers.
• Life vests, paddles, and canoes will be provided!

First Meeting // POPCORN Kickoff
• Meet new and old friends with fun icebreaker games.
• Planning for the coming year’s adventures.

• Learn and review the basics of what makes a Beaver Scout.
• Outdoor fun + how to fish!

Fishing at Cedar Beach
• Please bring your fishing rod (we'll bring extras, as needed).
• Bait and fishing lessons will be provided.
• Parents are strongly encouraged to stay and fish with your Beavers.

Allsop Farms Pumpkins
• Meet at 195 Road 2 East, Kingsville
• We’ll explore the corn maze, ride in a hay wagon, and play some games.

Canned Food Drive (joint event with Cubs and Scouts)
• Meet at First Baptist Church dressed for the weather.
• We’ll canvass the area in support of our local food bank. Parents are encouraged to stay for the
fun. Wagons are also appreciated!

(SATURDAY) Apple Day Fundraiser
• Help us spread awareness about Scouts Canada, and raise money for our group, while sharing
apples with our community. Details to follow!

Cedar Island Yacht Club

We’ll learn some sailing basics, tour a real live yacht, and work towards our next outdoor adventure

New Beaver Investiture – Camp Cedarwin Campfire
• Meet at 1495 Arner Townline, Harrow
• We’ll learn about fire safety and some great campfire songs.
• Parents of new Beavers are welcome to stay and share in the ceremony

(SUNDAY) Remembrance Day Ceremonies
• Join other scouting members at the Kingsville Cenotaph at the Legion
• Meet for the morning service wearing full uniforms

The Life of the Beaver
• We’re back at First Baptist for an exciting evening focused on real Beavers!
• What do they eat? Where do they live? What do they do for fun?

(SATURDAY) Kingsville Santa Claus Parade
• Meet promptly at 5:30 p.m. on Main Street, west of Wigle.
• Please park at Zehrs and walk your Beavers down to the Jack Miner float
• Parade starts at 6:00 p.m. and will take 40 minutes
• Pick-up immediately after the parade at 197 Lansdowne (former Action Hobby parking lot)
• Beavers should wear uniforms (over coats) and dress for cold weather

Jack Miner’s Christmas Fun
• Meet at the Jack Miner Bird Sanctuary – 332 Road 3 W, Kingsville
• We’ll be making edible Christmas ornaments and decorating the grounds
• Always lots to explore at Jack Miner’s!

Cooking Class with Green Heart Lunch Club
• Meet at 28 Main Street, Kingsville
• Chef Dennis Rogers will share about the value of good nutrition
• Your Beavers will get hands on experience preparing a delicious chicken dumpling soup, plus make
blueberry muffins!

Getting Ready for Camp
• Meet at Kingsville Public School – We’re using their gym!
• Review of camping skills badge competencies
• Learn how to read a map and navigate through the woods

• Meet Saturday morning at 8:30 am at 1495 Arner Townline, Harrow
• We will be sleeping indoors and participating in exciting winter activities

• Learn to be a ring master, perform circus tricks, and chase wild animals

Kingsville Animal Clinic Visit
• Meet at 228 Division Street North, Kingsville
• Get a behind-the-scenes tour of the clinic, Q&A with practicing veterinarians, learn how to keep
your pets healthy, and much more

Sledding / Outside Adventure and Hot Chocolate
• Check-in outside KPS front doors – We’ll start our night outside
• Please try to send your Beavers with a sled (or two). Parents welcome!
• Ensure your Beavers are fully equipped for some fun in the snow. We’ll then head back inside
KPS for some hot chocolate with marshmallows

What Makes Vehicles Move? + Beaver Buggy Building
• With a STEM focus, we’ll be learning about what makes vehicles ZOOM
• We’ll also be finishing up our Beaver Buggies for the upcoming race

FEBRUARY

Beaver Buggy Practice – MEET AT FIRST BAPTIST
• The track will here, and we’ll practice for the Beaver Buggy Race in Harrow + Red Light Green
Light and more STEM adventures!

SATURDAY – Essex Area Beaver Buggy Race
• Harrow Agriculture Building (next to Fair Grounds)
• Registration 8-9 a.m. – Races to start at 9:15 a.m.
• Full uniforms are mandatory for all Beavers
• Stick around for the Cub Kar and Scout Drag races!
• $15 per entry – includes crest plus lunch (hotdog, drink & chips)

Family Movie Night – Toy Story – Linking Event with Cub Scouts
• We’re turning the KPS gym into a movie theatre for the night
• Bring your whole family, and lots of chairs and blankets
• We’ll have popcorn, snacks, drinks, and a movie the whole family can enjoy!
• We’ll also be celebrating Robert Baden-Powell’s Birthday

SATURDAY Linking Family Potluck Dinner – MEET AT KINGSVILLE ARENA (1741 Jasperson)
• Bring your favorite dish & small desert to share.
• Scouters (leaders) will provide drinks and tableware.
• Door prizes for all kids and a raffle for adults ($2 each or 3 for $5).
• Siblings are invited and parents / guardians must stay.
• Scouting members are asked to wear full uniform for group picture.

Maple Syrup Adventure – MEET AT JR PARK HOMESTEAD (915 County Road 50, Harrow)
• Program will run an EXTRA 30 MINUTES from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
• We’ll learn all about maple trees and how maple syrup is made
• Watch the sap boil and carry pails of sap with a wooden yoke
• Try maple syrup, maple butter, and maple sugar
• There will be local maple products available for purchase!

Owl Prowl – MEET AT JACK MINER BIRD SANCTUARY (332 Road 3 W, Kingsville)
• Parents are encouraged to stay for the fun as their Beavers dissect Barn Owl pellets and learn
about the wonders of the owl world
• We’ll be largely indoors, but will head outside if time permits

March Break – Enjoy the week with your family
• No school – no scouts

Libro Credit Union Vault Exploration (328 Main Street East, Kingsville)
• Drop-off at 328 Main Street E. Kingsville
• We’ll have an hour of fun and exploration at the Libro Credit Union
• We’ll tour the branch, get a behind the scenes look at the vault, learn about personal finance
(it’s never too early to start saving for retirement), and much more!

Early Spring Nature Hike – Cedar Creek Conservation Area
• The Conservation Area is located on Arner Townline (https://goo.gl/maps/fm4U6ErPLPK2)
• It is the first laneway south of CR 20 on the right (before the bridge and Camp Cedarwin)
• Your Beavers will use a compass as we hike to the secret meadow
• Ensure your Beavers bring their boots as mud is a given on this trip!

Hungry Hippos and Badge Review
• Meet at KPS for a fabulous hour of games and badge work
• With our trail map, we’ll spend time reviewing our adventures
• Vessey seed orders and money due today!

SUNDAY EVENT – Family Swim at the Essex Aquatic Centre (Essex High)
• Swimming from 1:00 – 2:30 p.m. / fun (& pizza) in the gym after swimming from 2:30 – 3:30 p.m.
• Meet at 242 Talbot St N, Essex
• Cost is $4 per person / $12 for family of 5 / $1 extra for water slide (7+)

• Meet at 6155 Arner Townline (Canadian Transportation Museum)
• The village consists of over 20 pioneer buildings including a one-room school house, a general
store, barber shop, church, train station, doctor’s office, several log cabins and historic homes.
• Our Beavers will break into lodges and visit the different historical buildings looking for clues to
solve a mystery.
• Please ensure your Beavers are dressed for the outdoors!

greenhouses where the excitement happens!

• Parents are welcome to stay for our daytime activities but are required back at lights out for tent
camping with your Beaver.
