I trust that you will find it interesting and informative. This tutorial letter contains important information pertaining to this module and the assignment questions for this module. 2 PURPOSE OF AND OUTCOMES FOR THE MODULE 2.1 Purpose The purpose of this module is to equip students with the necessary competencies to apply the fundamental concepts, principles, and processes of the liability insurance. 2.2 Outcomes Each chapter has a stated purpose (the reason why it is being studied) and specific outcomes (what you should be able to do), upon completion thereof. These are set out in the prescribed book and you should familiarise yourself with it. The assignments and examination will measure your ability to illustrate sound understanding and/or your ability to perform any tasks as formulated in the specific outcomes. Any other enquiries should be directed to the relevant administrative sections as indicated in tutorial letter Please provide your student number when contacting the University. 4 ASSESSMENT 4.1 Assessment plan To fully benefit from our formative tuition and assessment, you are required to submit Assignment 01 to gain admission to the examination. The mark obtained for this assignment will contribute to your year mark. Please refer to CBMALLD/301/4/2016 for a detail explanation on the year mark composition. Assignment 02 is a self-evaluation assignment and must not be submitted for marking. Please complete this assignment after studying all the prescribed material. Although this assignment is not contributing to the year mark, it is a very important exercise and learning experience. The examination paper will consist of short and long easy type questions and multiple choice questions. The assignments appear in Annexure A of this tutorial letter. You year mark will contribute 20% to your final mark in the examination. A 40% subminimum however applies (i.e. you must obtain a minimum of 40% for the exam before the year mark is taken into account). Therefore, a mark of less than 40% in the exam will be the final mark obtained for this module. Refer to tutorial letter CBMALLD/301/4/2016 for more detail on the final examination processes. 4 PASTILI/101 4.2 Submission of assignments Students may submit the written assignment either by post or in PDF format electronically via myUnisa. Assignments may not be submitted by fax or e-mail. PLEASE NOTE: For enquiries about assignments (e.g. whether or not the university has received your assignment or the date on which an assignment was returned to you), see my Studies @ Unisa, or you can also find information on myUnisa. 4.3 Feedback on assignments The suggested solutions for the two assignments will be supplied in Tutorial letter PASTILI/201/2/2016. This tutorial letter will be uploaded on myUnisa after the due date of Assignment 01. The tutorial letter will only be available in an electronic format. The assignments form an important part of your learning experience and it is advisable to redo the assignments after you receive the feedback to make sure that you comprehend the learning outcomes and to prepare you for the examination. Assignments are seen as part of the learning material for this module. As you do the assignments, study the reading texts and refer to the learning outcomes and assessment criteria given for each chapter in the prescribed text to determine what is required of you. Refer to Annexure A for the assignments. 5 EXAMINATIONS Use your my Studies @ Unisa brochure for general examination guidelines and examination preparation guidelines. The examination paper will consist of essay type questions. All questions in the paper must be answered. The recommended answers to this assignment will be provided in Tutorial Letter 201. Question 1 [15 marks] Discuss the difference between defective workmanship and products liability cover. Question 2 [10 marks] Explain “liability for the acts of others” in context of the motor car owner and driver and illustrate with an example. [Total: 25 marks] 6 PASTILI/101 ASSIGNMENT 02 – Self evaluation NOTE: This is a self evaluation assignment and must not be submitted for marking. Please answer the questions under a simulated examination condition. Study Study all the chapters in the prescribed book. In addition to the assignment questions you should also work through all the self-evaluation questions in the prescribed book. Please refer back to the outcomes formulated at the beginning of a unit after you have worked through the self-evaluation questions in the textbook and ensure that you can achieve the stated outcomes.
