Nursing considerations: Assess behavior, appearance, emotional status, response to the environment, speech pattern, and thought processes.

Functional Class : Antidepressant Therapeutic range Dose/Frequency: Initially, 150 mg/day in 3 equally divided doses. Increase by 50 mg/day at 3-to-4-day intervals until therapeutic response is achieved.

Major side effects : Drowsiness, dry mouth, light-headedness, dizziness, headache, blurred vision, and nauseas.
Nursing concerns for this patient : May decrease WBC and neutrophil counts.
Patient teaching : Immediately discontinue medication if priapism occurs, avoid alcohol, tolerance to sedative, anticholinergic effects usually develops during early therapy, do not abruptly discontinue medication.
Nursing considerations: Assess mental status, mood behavior. Patients on long-term, serum hepatic/renal function tests, blood counts performed periodically.

Major side effects : Drowsiness and dizziness.
Nursing concerns for this patient : Abrupt or too rapid withdrawal may result in pronounced restlessness, irritability, insomnia, vomiting, and seizure.
Patient teaching: Drowsiness usually subsides during continued therapy, smoking reduces drug effectiveness, immediately report suspected pregnancy, and do not use alcohol, CNS depressants.
Nursing considerations: Offer emotional support to anxious patients. Assess motor response and autonomic responses.
