1 ONLINE ALUMNI TRACER WITH NAÏVE BAYES CLASSIFICATION ON THE EMPLOYABILITY OF CTU-ARGAO GRADUATES __________________________ A Project Study Presented to The Faculty of the Graduate School of Information, Computer and Communications Technology University of San Jose – Recoletos Cebu City, Philippines __________________________ In Partial Fulfilment Of the Requirements for the Degree Master in Information Technology __________________________ By: LOVELLA L. INSO August 2019 2 BACKGROUND Cebu Technological University Argao Campus aims to produce graduates that can compete in the real world, locally and globally. With this, the university is conducting tracer study on the employability of its graduates. The challenge does not end there, we need a convenient and more easy way of tracking our alumni. Also, this study will focus on the type of work the graduate is engaged in. It is essential that the university has a scheme that keeps track of its graduates so that the university has efficient data about the graduates. The university can obtain significant data required through this system, such as the graduates' employment rate, job experiences, and program results directed to help graduates integrate in the labor market. Naïve Bayes Classification is the algorithm to use in analyzing the data gathered from this tracer system which mainly determine graduates' employability status. Keywords: graduate, tracer, employability, job quality, education 3 Problems being solved Tracer study is widely being used in most of the universities to track and to keep record of their students once they have graduated from the institution. Through the tracer study, an institution will be able to assess the quality of education provided to its graduates by understanding the placements and positions of the graduates in society that can later be used as a benchmark for generating more skilled and competitive graduates. The tracer study also aims at generating or influencing a certain institution's decision making and planning regarding curriculum growth. It is likewise regulating document efficiency and support on the demographic profile of a certain institution that can be measured through the quality of graduates. Now, the question is, how can we easily track these graduates? With the manual distribution of questionnaires to these could be time consuming and possibly losing important information. We all are aware that most of these graduates are found in the internet. They are most of the time using social media in their leisure time. So, might as well create an online system that is accessible to these alumni. Also, upon gathering the needed data from the graduates, the analysis of these data could take time in manual processing. Whereas if we have the system, the graduate can update their profile in the system, and it will automatically analyze the given data thus eliminating time consumed and generating a more efficient and reliable result. Not only that, with the manual tracer study, we are limited to the year the alumni graduated. It would be hard for us to generate results based on batches and of what specific course the alumni finished. So, the researcher think that the Online Alumni Tracer can come in handy and of big help. 4 RELATED STUDY USPian Alumni Tracer on 20 Higher Education Programs is a tracer study of USP Cebu. The objective of this study is to provide profile of the current conditions of employment, and place of work of its graduates, descriptive research design is used. The researchers used the Google documents online along with the pen and paper fill-out forms. In the dissemination and collection of data, they also used social media such as Facebook and Twitter (SolonVillaneza,2015). Similarly, in the study A Tracer Study of the Employment Status of PUP QC AY 20042005 by Verona (2016) recommended that future studies should give all efforts to trace graduates in a timely and systematically manner in order to arrive in a successful and reliable result. To collect data from the graduates, the researchers used in-person distribution, and email questionnaires, together with Facebook messaging and telephone. Personal information is included in the questionnaire and the respondents ' contact confirmation. The job profile including the status of the employee and the job data of the participant is included. In order to summarize quantitative information gatherings using descriptive statistics, the investigator used descriptive studies. Planning, information collection, and testing equipment are conducted in line with the study testing and assessment concurrently. A study on Development of Online Graduate Tracer System with Data Analytics by Orozco (2018), the researchers used simple random sampling as random students responded online using google forms with the survey. Alumni 2010-2017 info are gathered through interviews and their profiles and job history is being generated by the system. ONLINE TRACER STUDY OF BUNG HATTA UNIVERSITY of Suryani et al, (2015) is used to assess the alumni’s performance with respect to their profile, length of time until finding the first job, job position, sustainability of the education background with the current job and input for curriculum development. 5 Gaps: (what are lacking in the existing studies) The Development of Online Graduate Tracer System with Data Analytics by Orozco (2018) is good already wherein it can track the graduates’ profile. It lacks the update function so that graduates can easily update their current job status thus giving a timely and accurate information. This system also cannot tell if the current job matches to the degree the graduate finished but asking the graduates if their current job is aligned to their degree or not which is personally subjective. The ONLINE TRACER STUDY OF BUNG HATTA UNIVERSITY is basically from user input only for record keeping and retrieving. It is more like an information system for the graduates without data analytics. This system is based merely on communication, information and transaction functions limited to the data and opinion inputted by the users (graduates, school admin or even employers of their graduates). 6 Proposed Solution: To further develop an OnlineAlumni System, such as through the method of curriculu m rebuilding or promotional needs, an alumni database is needed. Given the problem and gaps on the existing studies, this proposed project – Online Alumni Tracer Study is one of the solutions that could address our concern. From the record gathered through the alumni tracer of the university, the researcher can analyze these data using the Naïve Bayes classification. Through this study the researcher aims to create an Online Alumni Tracer that is cloud-based. This system will help not only the school but also to the graduates. Its main function is to trace graduates by adding the graduates’ information which is done solely by the admin. The graduates on the other hand will be notified through email or their social media accounts so they can login into the system wherein username and password are provided. They can login to the system and update their profile based on current job title, nature of work, company employed and classify if their current job is aligned to their degree or not.
