IB SL ESS Biome Project Due: Tuesday, December 10, 2012 Biosphere: The regions of the Earth that are able to support life. Biome: Groups of ecosystems with similar climatic conditions and distinct abiotic factors and species that allow for distinguish between biomes. Rainfall, sunlight (insolation) and temperatures are the key features. Biomes cross national boundaries (ex. Sahara desert is in more than one country) Your task is to design a poster outlining the characteristics of your biome. Your poster will be presented to the class. Posters will be done in partners. See rubric on reverse. Poster must include: - - - Image of distribution of biome in the world Climate of biome o Annual precipitation/rainfall (mm) o Temperature – average, highs and lows (°C) o Insolation (sunlight, latitude etc.) o Climograph image Net Primary Productivity - Gain of energy by producers per area per unit time (dependent upon levels of photosynthesis) – See textbook. Characteristics of vegetation (including biodiversity) Biome topic choice will be made in class and includes: Desert Temperate grassland Tropical rainforest Tundra Boreal forest (Taiga) No Wikipedia. MLA citations must be glued to the back of the poster, including image citations. Start all research using the library homepage. Biome Project Rubric Poster Poster is very attractive, good use of colour and font. images are easy to understand. Poster is attractive. Font it too small or images are unclear. Poster is messy with too much font, poor layout. Poster is unattractive. Little effort shown.
